Chapter 8 To the Bar
When he saw this, Nathaniel’s face darkened even further. “Get rid of it.”
With that, he stormed out of the room.
He was about to send someone to track down Rosalie when his phone rang.
Looking at the caller ID, he furrowed his brows.
“Speak.”
“Mr. Drake, JK went to Topcrest and took down our mole.”
Nathaniel choked on his breath.
*****
What others had struggled for months to achieve, Rosalie had managed in just a day with a little cooperation from the departments. Not only had she removed the mole, but she’d also installed a tracking program on it.
Now, she was determined to see where it led.
If it really was Nathaniel behind this, then this deal was absolutely doable.
“In two hours, the firewall will be restored,” Rosalie had said before leaving, as cool as ever.
Getting into Candice’s car, Rosalie opened her laptop and continued with the work she hadn’t finished earlier. By the designated time, she had completely replaced Topcrest’s firewall with a new one.
Candice, lounging in the driver’s seat, popped a lollipop in her mouth, grinning as she watched the funds coming in. She couldn’t help but feel happy.
“Let’s go, I’m taking you for some fun.”
With a push of the gas pedal, she sped off, giving Rosalie no chance to protest. Soon, the off-road vehicle pulled up in front of a high-end club.
As night fell, the pent-up restlessness of the day began to boil over under the influence of music and alcohol.
Candice dragged Rosalie onto the dance floor, where they danced to upbeat songs, sweat glistening on their bodies.
Having been a “good wife” for three years, Rosalie almost forgot what it felt like to be free.
Now, her once-captive soul was finally set loose.
Rosalie bent down, tearing off part of her skirt, revealing a pair of long legs, captivating anyone who dared to look.
Candice screamed with excitement, stripping off her jacket to reveal only a black crop top, standing on a chair and cheering for Rosalie. The entire dance floor erupted in wild cheers.
Nathaniel, who had just entered the hall, was slapped on the back by his friend Brant Whitaker. “Shit, Nathaniel, is that your wife?”
Instinctively, he turned his head toward the noise.
And there Rosalie was—the woman who had cursed him and blocked him just a day ago—dancing provocatively with several men, her waist swaying in a way that made his blood boil.
“Clear the floor,” Nathaniel ground out between clenched teeth, his voice dripping with cold fury.
Brant scratched his nose and waved over the club manager.
The noise slowly died down. Rosalie was leaning against the stage, her chest rising and falling after the intense dance, her allure only heightened by the exertion.
Rosalie flicked her hair back and gave Nathaniel a languid, seductive glance. She froze.
Though she looked composed on the outside, her heart was racing wildly.
But Candice, that untrustworthy friend, had run off.
Candice had promised to do anything for her, but now she was nowhere to be found.
“Come down,” Nathaniel commanded coldly, his eyes dark and filled with barely-contained rage.
“Why should I?” Rosalie replied, her face set in an expression of cool defiance.
“This club is mine. Do you really think you can just walk away?”
Nathaniel’s head throbbed, the cold curve of his lips twisting into a dangerous smile.
His entire demeanor radiated a sense of unfinished business, as if tonight’s events couldn’t simply be dismissed.
Rosalie took a deep breath. It was impossible to be completely calm, but she had already made the decision to leave. What was there left to fear?
After a brief moment, she composed herself.
Her shoes were nowhere to be found, so she walked barefoot to the edge of the stage, leaning in slightly.
“Mr. Drake, are you making such a grand spectacle of catching me, planning to drag me to divorce court? Or are you taking me home to have babies?”
Brant, who had been hiding nearby, burst into laughter.
Is this really the gentle, virtuous wife Nathaniel has described? She is talking like this?
Nathaniel shot Brant a venomous glance, sending a chill down his spine. Brant quickly took a few steps back, but his curiosity got the better of him, and he strained to eavesdrop.
Nathaniel ignored him and turned his gaze back to the woman who was causing such turbulence in his heart. His voice was low, tinged with impatience.
“Before we divorce, you’re still Mrs. Drake. There’s a limit to your antics. You can’t afford to disgrace the Drake family’s reputation.”
