Chapter 9 You Can’t Let Go
“Mrs. Drake!” Rosalie chuckled softly, her eyes filled with mockery.

“Other than the Drake family, who even knows I’m your wife, Nathaniel? Why bother clearing the place? No one would recognize me anyway,” Rosalie said.
She leapt gracefully off the stage, the icy floor chilling her feet as she strode toward him, each step deliberate, her cold gaze meeting his.
The warmth of her once–affectionate eyes was gone, replaced by an unflinching resolve.
“If you don’t want the Drake family embarrassed, sign the papers and finalize the divorce. After that, we’ll have nothing to do with each other.
“Rosalie!” Nathaniel snapped, his frustration bubbling over as he grabbed her slim waist. The soft, familiar sensation under his fingertips stirred something primal within him
The mingled scents of alcohol and her intoxicating fragrance muddled his thoughts, his heart pounding erratically.
Rosalie, however, shoved him away without hesitation.
“What? Can’t let go?” she smirked coldly, her lips curving in disdain.
Rosalie said, “What a pity. Your skills are so awful. Even if you can’t let go, I’ve had enough”
Her defiant gaze locked with his, her flushed cheeks adding to the finality of her words.
“You have three days. If you don’t sign, I’ll file for divorce. When the Drake family’s name gets dragged through the mud, you can clean up the mess yourself.”
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, her hands clenched into fists as she felt Nathaniel’s furious gaze boring into her back. Each step she took was steady, deliberate, and unwavering.
As she passed Brant, she paused and tilted her head toward him.
“Brant, enjoying the gossip? Want me to fill you in on the details of sleeping with Nathaniel?”
Brant gaped, stunned into silence, his jaw practically hitting the floor.
Is Rosalir out of her mind?
It wasn’t until Rosalie disappeared out the club’s doors that Brant swallowed hard, his nerves shot
When did Rosalie get so intimidating? She is fiercer than even
Leonor.
Brant patted his chest to steady himself and jogged over to Nathaniel.
“Has your wife been possessed? This is downright supernatural”
“Then hire her an exorcist” Nathaniel replied coldly, tugging at his tie in frustration.
Brant instantly shut up
Nathaniels gaze lingered on the dark night beyond the window before he turned back to Brant. “Any updates on the job for
TK
Brant quickly adopted a more serious tone.
“Not yet. But Nathaniel, JK’s been retired for three years and suddenly resurfaces now, taking out your mole. Do you has anything to do with Leonor’s new patent?”

With no mood left for drinking. Nathaniel turned and left the club.

Rosalie assumed Candice was still in the car when she found the door locked. Tugging at it a few times in frustration, she gave up and called her.
Rosalie said, “Candice, you better have a good excuse for ditching
Her words were cut off by a low, unfamiliar male voice.
“She’s not coming back tonight.”
the.”
“Who are you?” Rosalie demanded, her nerves immediately on edge. Before she could think of how to trace the call. Candice’s voice came through, a mix of pain and pleasure. “Goddamn it–take it easy…ah….
The call disconnected, leaving Rosalie red–faced as the dial tone hummed in her ear
It wasn’t hard to guess what was happening on the other end.
Clearly, Candice hadn’t abandoned her out of disloyalty but had been swept up by someone else.
Hailing a cab. Rosalie climbed in and barely got settled when her phone buzzed. It was Eldon.
“Rosa, still awake”
His kind voice softened her resolve. No matter how much she tried to steel herself, she could never bring herself to be cold to Eldon. After all, he was the one who had pulled her out of the mud when she was at her lowest. That debt, she could never forget
“Yes, Grandpa. Did you need something?”
“Good. I found a doctor who’s very skilled. It took a long time to get an appointment, and I’ve picked up some herbal medicine. I’ll bring it over to you now. Once your health is better, you’ll definitely conceive.”
Eldon’s genuine concern left her speechless.
For years, Nathaniel had forbidden her from having children, but they needed a public excuse.
So, she’d lied to Eldon, claiming her health wasn’t in good condition and that her chances of conceiving were low. To keep up the lie, she had endured years of bitter herbal tonics.
And now, Eldon’s own health was deteriorating.
