Chapter 14 A Pinpointed Jab
Furusted
A few years ago, when the Flynn family scandal broke, everyone in the room was well aware of the situation. The fact that they brought it up now was simply to annoy Rosalie.
Rosalie scoffed and said. “Siena is right, but Juliet. I believe Juliet still doesn’t have children, right? She’d better hurry up. Once you pass a certain age, the risks can be very high. She might even end up with two lives lost in one go
She then turned to Siena and continued. “By the way. Siena, I heard the project you invested in recently suffered some losses How much did you lose! Business isn’t just about luck, you know. If you’re not savvy with these things, you should ask Nathaniel for advice. Losing money is one thing, but if you’re not careful, you might end up in deeper trouble.”
Rosalie’s words hit the mark
Siena’s business had been struggling badly recently. She had even been involved in shady dealings, and just a few days ago. the police had called her in for questioning. If it weren’t for the Drake family’s powerful connections, she might not have gotten off so easily.
The room fell into an eerie silence after Rosalie’s comment. Juliet’s and Siena’s faces were flushed with anger and embarrassment
Chelsea and Lilian exchanged a quick glance.
Rosalie’s reaction was unlike anything they had expected.
She was fierce and sharp, almost as if she had taken something that gave her new strength.
Feeling the tension ease, Rosalie finally said, “Siena, Juliet, I’m sure I’ve said something wrong. I’m not very educated, so if I’ve offended you, please don’t mind it. After all, I’ve endured a lot of hardship before, and we should all be a bit more understanding of each other.”
At the corner of the stairs, a tall figure stood half–hidden in the shadows, his face obscured.
Nathaniel had just come downstairs and overheard the conversation.
It wasn’t exactly a casual chat. It was clearly a deliberate attempt to target Rosalie,
The biting remarks Rosalie had been subjected to in the past had always gone unnoticed when Nathaniel was around, but now, he could hear them clearly.
t
The people in the Drake family were experts at playing both sides–friendly in person, but backstabbing behind the scenes. Nathaniel was often too busy with work to notice, leaving Rosalie to deal with the family on her own.
Before, when Rosalie told him that his family wasn’t kind to her, he dismissed it, thinking she was being overly sensitive.
Now, after hearing what she’d had to endure, Nathaniel frowned.
He quickened his pace and walked straight up to Rosalie, extending his hand with a calm tone. “Dinner’s ready.”
Rosalie hesitated for a moment, caught off guard by his hand.
Nathaniel’s hands were elegant, his fingers long and defined, but the palms were wide and strong. Rosalie often found herself quietly holding his fingers when he was asleep, enjoying the quiet happiness it brought her.
In t
the past, she often imagined that his hands would lift her from the abyss, but the reality had been different
It turned out that some things could only be fixed by oneself.
Rosalie stood up, but instead of taking his hand, she said. “I can find my way. You go and join Eldon”
Nathaniel’s gaze darkened, clearly seeing through her excuse,

Chapter 14 A Pinpointed Jab
Rosalie’s heart sank. Eldon must have been giving Nathaniel a hard time again.
Nathaniel was a master at playing the game of appearances.
Once at the dinner table, Rosalie instinctively reacheil for the cutlery and served Eldon first.
Eldon beamed at her, his smile practically stretching across his face.
“Rosa, I made all your favorite dishes today. You’re too thin, you need to eat more.”
Rosalie’s heart swelled with gratitude. After all these years, Eldon was the only one who remembered her tastes.
She nodded obediently at him,
Finished
Since she had to put on a show in front of Eldon, Nathaniel, of course, had to play along. He served her several dishes, piling them onto her plate.
Rosalie glanced at the seafood in her bowl and felt a knot form in her stomach.
When Nathaniel added more seafood to her plate, she pushed it aside without touching it.
Perhaps noticing her reaction, Nathaniel leaned closer and spoke in a low voice, “Stop pretending
Rosalie forced a smile as she stared at the abalone and said, “I don’t eat seafood.
Nathaniel froze. She has always enjoyed seafood, so why does she suddenly not like it?
He had assumed she liked it, so he always made it for her.
Rosalie smiled and scooped all the seafood from her plate onto his. “Leonor is the one who loves seafood. I’m allergic to it. 1 only used to eat it to match your tastes. Don’t you remember? I have to take medication before meals, but I forgot it today.”
