Chapter 24 The Banquet

“Your ex–husband is like a walking spotlight–always stealing the show wherever he goes, Candice teased Rosalie with a slightly smug smile.
Rosalie had grown used to Candice’s tone and didn’t react much. It was well–known that her ex–husband” was handsome. something everyone agreed on. Otherwise, Leonor wouldn’t be so interested in him.
Nathaniel scanned the crowd and his gaze finally settled on Rosalie across the room, his expression faltering slightly.
He was surprised. Rosalie looked different today. She was dressed in a way he’d never seen before. In their three years of marriage, her outfits were always on the softer side, mostly light–colored.
He didn’t know that when Rosalie actually made an effort, she could stand out so easily.
As he noticed many male guests eyeing her with admiration and desire, a flash of displeasure crossed Nathaniel’s eyes.
He immediately made his way over to Rosalie. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his tone colder than usual.
Rosalie gave a cold laugh. “You really have a lot of energy, huh? Your date is over there, yet you rush over here to talk to me.”
She always had to poke at Leonor, which made Nathaniel feel both helpless and confused.
Frowning, he glanced at the people around them, who were clearly watching them closely.
He stepped in front of her and said, “Rosalie, I don’t like you wearing this. Go change.”
He chose to completely ignore her earlier remark.
His condescending attitude made Rosalie feel a twinge of frustration.
He had always preferred the kind of woman Leonor was–easygoing, graceful, and unbothered by anything. Rosalie had never measured up to Leonor in his eyes, not even after three years of marriage.
She was about to retort, saying it was none of his business what she wore, when her arm was suddenly grabbed from behind.
Before she could react, Theodore had pulled her behind him, creating a barrier between her and Nathaniel.
He didn’t say a word, just stood there, silently watching Nathaniel, as if ready to shield Rosalie from anything he might say
next.
Nathaniel’s expression darkened instantly upon seeing Theodore.
A low, mocking laugh escaped Nathaniel’s lips as he spoke slowly, “Rosalie, come here.”
Rosalie remained standing behind Theodore, feeling secure and protected by his broad frame
She didn’t move when Nathaniel spoke.
Nathaniel was fuming, his words coming through clenched teeth, like he wanted to devour Rosalie whole.
“You’ve forgotten about our agreement, haven’t you?” he sneered. “This is a public place, and you’re a married woman.”
At the mention of their agreement, Rosalie felt a slight shiver run through her.
It was a subtle threat, a reminder of his control. If she pushed him too far, the divorce might not go as smoothly as hoped.
the
She stepped out from behind Theodore, meeting Nathaniel’s gaze head–on. “What is it that you want to say? I’m here for business today, not to follow you around,” she stated firmly.

“Rosalie” she sard sweetly, Nathaniel and I are here for work. I know you’re uncomfortable with how close we are, but truly
ally bothers you. I’m sorry I just hope you won’t make a scene here. It wouldn’t be worth risking the collaboration over smithing like this?
Louer looked at Rosalie with innocent eyes and a gentle smile, trying to play the peacemaker.
Standing next to Nathaniel, they looked like the perfect couple, as if they belonged together.
Rosalie, however, could hardly stomach the sight.
I don’t care what business you two have. I’m not the one causing a scene. It’s Mr. Drake who’s picking a fight with me,” Rosalie
Leonor’s face fell slightly, but Rosalie continued, her voice growing sharper. “If you’re talking about causing a scene, let’s be clear here. What business requires an employer from the engineering department, and why are you acting so chummy with hime
“Mr. Drake, I think you should remember that you’re a married man. Try to act accordingly
Rosalie couldn’t believe it Nathaniel was making her out to be the troublemaker first.
