Chapter 27 Kicked Out of the Car

I went with Theodore today for work, Rosalie began, her tone calm yet tinged with irritation. “We’re just friends and haven’t
en each other in years. He helped me earlier because I twisted my ankle and almost fell ”
And you
calling out my relationship with Leonor” she added, her voice sharpening. Im allowed to have friends too. Or is it only you who gets a free pass
Rosales words barely left her lips before Nathaniel slammed on the brakes.
The car jerked to a sudden stop, and though her seatbelt kept her in place, she still pitched forward slightly from the force.
“Nathaniel What are you…”
“Get out.” he cut her of his voice cold and sharp.
Rosalie froze for a moment, staring at him in disbelief.
Do you want me to drag you out myself?” he repeated, his impatience palpable.
Histone and the unyielding expression on his face made it clear he wasn’t bluffing.
The spot hed pulled over wasn’t entirely desolate. It wasn’t the city center, but there were enough cars passing by that she could find her way home.
Rosalie felt a chill creep over her. Her fingers fumbled with the seatbelt as she undid it, her movements stiff.
Once outside, she barely had time to steady herself before Nathaniel floored the accelerator, leaving her standing on the roadside in a cloud of exhaust fumes. She stared after the car as it sped away, her fists clenched tightly.
“Nathaniel Drake,” she muttered under her breath, “you’re an unstable lunatic”
She had been convinced that her marriage to Nathaniel was nearing its inevitable end. All she needed was to endure for another year, and she’d finally be free.
But then, out of nowhere, he inexplicably tore up the agreement
Her thoughts spiraled Without the divorce agreement, I have nothing to fall back on. What if he kept dragging this out? And what about the house planned to buy with Candice? Without the agreement, even that could become entangled in our shared assets.
The weight of it all bore down on her, and she raked her hands through her hair in frustration.
“Goddamn Nathaniel she spat out, voice trembling with anger. “You’re a psychopath.”
Her outburst earned a few glances from passersby, and not wanting to become a public spectacle, she flagged down a passing cab and climbed in
Nathaniel, meanwhile, wasn’t faring much better.
After leaving Rosalie on the side of the road, he drove straight back to Lotuswood Estate, his mood fouler than ever
Even with the house staff bustling about, the place felt oppressively empty. It wasn’t long before his gaze landed on a pair of white slippers near the door–Rosalie’s
He gritted his teeth. “Throw those out,” he barked at a nearby housekeeper.
The woman hesitated, unsure. Did he mean Mr. Drakes belongings?‘
Not daring to question him, she nodded quickly burt quietly tucked the slippers into a storage cabinet instead.
Nathaniel stalked upstairs to his study, determined to focus on work.

Even if he didn’t touch them, she’d show up the next evening with something else.
The realization hit him harder than he expected.
Nathaniel reached for the intercom and instructed a housekeeper to bring him some coffee.
The servant moved quickly, and soon the coffee was brought to him.

It was his favorite blend, brewed at the perfect temperature, yet for some reason, after just one sip, Nathaniel had no desire to drink it further.
Staring at the dark liquid, Nathaniel felt no sense of calm. If anything, it only intensified his frustration.
“Sir, is the coffee not to your liking?” The servant asked cautiously.
This was usually something Rosalie did, and the servant wasn’t sure if something had gone wrong or if it simply wasn’t to his
Taste.
Take it away. It’s terrible.” Nathaniel said.
He sank back into his swivel chair, and the study returned to silence.
Closing his eyes and leaning back, Nathaniel took a moment to collect himself. Suddenly, he felt almost absurd for his earlier irritation.
If this was Rosalie’s new way of getting his attention, then she was certainly more successful than before.
Opening his eyes, he was lost in thought.
When I first married Rosalie, it was out of necessity. So why, now, did seeing her with another man make me so upset? When I first married Rosalie, it was out of necessity. So why, now, did seeing her with another man make me so upset?
