Chapter 28 Ridiculous
Nathaniel thought it was laughable that Rosalie would stoop so low, using petty tricks to get his attention.
What was worse, though, was that it worked. She’d managed to rile him up.
Once he realized this, Nathaniel forced his emotions to settle, redirecting his focus to work.

Meanwhile, Rosalie had just arrived back at Candice’s place. Candice glanced up from the couch, surprised to see her return “Why aren’t you at Lotuswood Estate?”
“Don’t ask,” Rosalie groaned, flopping onto the couch. “Nathaniel saw me on the way, lost his mind, tore up the divorce agreement, and then threw me out of the car.”
Candice’s jaw dropped. “Are you serious? What is he, a child? Tearing up contracts when he doesn’t get his way? This is Nathaniel Drake we’re talking about?”
“Apparently,” Rosalie said, throwing her arm over her eyes. “What do I do now!”
Candice rolled her eyes, taking a moment before speaking.
“Why don’t you… I don’t know, try to smooth things over with him for now? Get him to sign another agreement. Otherwise, are you just going to keep dragging this out forever?”
“And how exactly do I smooth things over?” Rosalie replied, her tone flat.
“Don’t play dumbs, You’ve been his wife for three years. You should know him better than anyone.” Candice smirked. “They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Bring him food, act sweet–doesn’t really matter what you do, as long as he’s in a good mood when the papers are in front of him,”
Rosalie mulled it over, sighing in defeat.
The next morning, Candice spotted Rosalie coming back home, her arms full of shopping bags.
“What’s this, a refugee mission?” Candice teased, raising an eyebrow
Rosalie shrugged. “Figured I might as well keep playing the part. If I’ve put up with it for three years, what’s a few more days? Til head to Grigow Airlines later to bring him lunch.”
“That’s wise of you! Candice watched as Rosalie busied herself in the kitchen, giving her a thumbs up.
Rosalie’s ability to handle pressure was genuinely impressive; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to endure three years of putting up with Nathaniel’s antics.
Inside the kitchen, Rosalie deliberately picked out Nathaniel’s favorite dishes.
Even though he rarely came home, and shared even fewer meals with her, she’d memorized his preferences to perfection.
Leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed, Candice smirked and said, “You know his habits better than anyone. Honestly, he should be paying you a salary. You’re more dedicated than the housekeeper.”
Though the words were teasing. Rosalie didn’t argue because it was true.
To please him, she’d kept track of every little thing he liked–no cilantro, no scallions, avoid greasy food…
Candice suddenly asked, “Rosalie, do you even know what you like to eat?”
The knife in Rosalie’s hand paused mid–chop.

“Rosalie. I’m not Grandpa. Don’t play these games with me. If you find it so exhausting, no one’s forcing you. I have zero interest in your cooking–just like I have zero interest in you”
Time and time again, he had crushed her sincerity underfoot, leaving her scarred and battered.

So often, in fact, that she had almost grown numb to the pain.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Rosalie forced a small smile and replied. “I know what you’re trying to say, Candice. Don’t worry, I’m not making the same mistakes again.”
She could hear the unspoken concern in Candice’s voice–a fear that her long–buried feelings for Nathaniel might resurface.
But those days were behind her. She had once loved Nathaniel, but not anymore.
At exactly 11:20 am, Rosalie finished cooking and hailed a cab to Grigow Airlines
The moment she stepped inside, she bumped into one of her former colleagues.
“Hey, Rosalie! You’re back!”
