Chapter 1 Divorce Agreement
They had been secretly married for two years, but they had never met.
Until that day, his grandfather’s eightieth birthday.
In their two years of marriage, he had used the excuse of expanding business outside, but in reality, it was just to spend time with his lover.
Inside the Dale family’s mansion, the hall was still bustling with guests, but he couldn’t wait any longer and ordered someone to call her upstairs.
The once-proud little princess had now hidden her brilliance, becoming low-key and cautious.
Even though she had learned to read people and gauge situations over the past two years, she was still anxious standing outside the door.
What would happen once that door opened? Divorce?
She took a deep breath quietly, steadied her emotions, and then knocked on the door.
“Come in.” The man’s composed voice sounded from inside, not loud.
She gripped the doorknob tightly, trying to calm the rush of emotions before pushing the door open.
She had slept alone in this room for two years. For the first time, she felt like she was trespassing.
The moment she stepped inside, she instinctively held her breath.
The man whom everyone in the house referred to as her husband stood by the window.
He was calm, composed, and never one to make mistakes.
After two years apart, he had gained even more of the allure of a mature man, exuding an overwhelming presence.
He didn’t seem like a husband, but more like a cold and composed boss, standing there, looking down at her with authority.
“Mr. Dale.” Lucy stopped in her tracks and greeted him with deference.
“Mm.” He exuded a cold aura that kept people at a distance of a thousand miles away, completely contrasting with the hot summer night.
Her coworker’s words suddenly surfaced in her mind, “I heard Mr. Dale came back to get married. His girlfriend’s pregnant.”
Girlfriend? How ridiculous.
They had been married for two years, yet no one knew she was his wife. While he had been expanding his business out of town, everyone in the city seemed to know he had a girlfriend.
And now, she was pregnant?
“Shall we cut to the chase?” Christopher’s deep voice inquired.
“Alright,” she answered softly, knowing what was about to come.
Since she moved in, this was the first time a man had entered the room, the first time a man’s voice had been heard, and it was like this.
“Do you remember our prenuptial agreement?” he asked again.
“Yes,” Lucy replied softly.
Christopher looked at her for a moment, then spoke again, “As long as you remember.”
With that, he walked towards her.
Each step he took made her heart race even faster. But a part of her couldn’t help but hope—just a little.
Chirs was her husband, he could have walked up to her, asked how she had been living alone these past two years. But…
He only walked to the nearby sofa.
He sat down, his long legs crossed naturally. He glanced at her briefly before leaning forward to open the drawer under the coffee table.
Lucy couldn’t help but look in that direction.
“I’m sorry I can’t let you keep the title of Mrs. Dale anymore, but if you need anything in the future, feel free to come to me.”
He didn’t mention divorce, but his words were clear.
He pulled out a document that had clearly been prepared long ago.
Lucy lowered her head and said nothing.
She stepped closer, reaching out her hand, and replied softly, “Alright.”
Christopher hadn’t expected her to be so calm and composed. He continued to stare at her. “Look through it first. Make sure it meets your expectations before you sign.”
“Okay,” she replied, taking the agreement he handed over.
She naturally unfolded. There were three pages, she read through them calmly.
There was a pen on the coffee table, likely something he had prepared in advance. She elegantly squatted down, picked it up, and signed her name.
She did it in one go, without any hesitation.
Because two years was long enough.
