Chapter 2 Wishing You Happiness
Lucy had signed her name countless times, but never felt so painful.
But she told herself, it was fine.
From now on, they could both live lighter.
Christopher stared at her for a long time, and then calmly said, “I’m sorry for what happened back then. But Emily… She’s pregnant. I have to take responsibility.”
The hand holding the pen trembled slightly, but she forced a smile. “Well, I wish you both happiness.”
Not long after their marriage, he had suddenly gained a girlfriend.
Rumor had it she was his childhood sweetheart. Rumor had it…
Just didn’t expect that the woman was truly pregnant.
In other words, he never considered Lucy waiting at home. His heart had always belonged to another woman.
She thought, what else could she do, except offer her blessing?
“Or perhaps there’s something you’d still like to ask for. I’ll do my best to fulfill it.”
He was silent for a moment, not wanting her to feel wronged over the divorce.
“I’m good,” Lucy replied.
Christopher stared into her gentle, clear eyes for two seconds before turning to look out the window.
It was raining.
Raindrops pelted the glass relentlessly. He got up and walked towards the window.
Lucy finally dared to breathe again after he got up.
Perhaps because she was finally giving him freedom that she found herself brave enough to glance at his retreating figure.
If only that accident two years ago had never happened.
She signed the papers, he should be happy, right?
So why did he look so weighed down?
Wasn’t this the marriage that had suffocated gim all along?
He hadn’t even returned for the elders’ birthday in the past two years. A lavish gift and a video call were all he offered.
It was as if he didn’t know he had a wife in the city. Even when others mentioned it, he acted as though he hadn’t heard.
Now that he was free, why didn’t he seem happy?
“Don’t tell the elders about the divorce for now,” he finally said.
“Alright,” Lucy agreed.
She wondered, was he worried about how the elders would react?
Hmm, if he wasn’t worried about the elders, could he possibly be worried about her?
He never worried about her. He was doing just fine with that other woman.
She lowered her gaze and slowly stood up.
“I’ll leave the house in Nashwark to you. It’s closer to the company, so it’ll be more convenient for you to commute.”
“Okay.” Actually, she wanted to refuse.
But at this moment, she felt too sentimental to say another word.
It was just a house, he didn’t care who he gave it to.
And this way, she could finally move out of the Dale family’s mansion.
This way, she could sever ties with the Dale family completely.
She silently accepted it all.
Christopher’s tall and imposing figure turned back toward her, his gaze locking onto hers. “You really have nothing else to say to me?”
Anything else?
What could she say? Could she say that she also once longed for him to come home?
Or that she had truly wanted to make this marriage work?
She looked at him, forced a smile, and said softly, “Thank you.”
“Thank me for what?” His voice turned cold.
“For giving me these two years.”
Her tone remained calm. She made sure not to show any expression that might displease him.
After all, she should be grateful for having shared a household registration with him for these two years.
“I’ll be staying in the city for a while. Tomorrow morning, I’ll propose to the elders that we move out together. I doubt they’ll object. Work with me on this.”
“Okay.” She lowered her head, her right hand gripping her left wrist tightly.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Christopher glanced toward the door, then turned back to her. “Take off your clothes.”
“…”
Lucy looked at him dumbfounded.
