Chapter 25 It’s Common Courtesy
“Then, thank you, Mrs. Dale Christopher said lazily but with determination as he turned around.
Lucy stared at him, completely stunned.
But given the alternative of delivering his clothes while he was completely undressed, bringing them now seemed like the better choice. She hurried to find him a set of pajamas and brought them over.
Inside the bathroom, Christopher had just taken off his shirt. When he saw her walk in, he neither rushed to cover himself nor slowed down.
Lucy reminded herself that men often had no qualms about undressing, even in public. If he wasn’t embarrassed, why should she be? Keeping her head down, she said, “I’ll leave the clothes here.”
“Wait, take this out for me.” His sudden call made her turn around to see that he was handing her his phone. She quickly took it and stepped out of the bathroom.
The sound of running water echoed behind her. Her face burned, and she hurried away, clutching the phone like it was a hot potato.
Then, the phone started ringing.
She froze at the door and glanced at the screen. Seeing the name “Emily,” her heart sank. Despite the feeling, she leaned in slightly and announced, “It’s Emily calling”
“Answer it for me.” Christopher’s calm yet commanding voice came from the shower.
She knew he was already in the tub. Her mind briefly wandered to thoughts of his toned physique, but she quickly shook them off. Should she answer Emily’s call?
She knew he was already in the tub. Her mind briefly wandered to thoughts of his toned physique, but she quickly shook them off. Should she answer Emily’s call?
If she did and mentioned he was in the shower, wouldn’t that upset Emily and potentially risk her pregnancy? Lucy decided against answering and placed the phone on the bed.
A few minutes later, Christopher emerged from the bathroom and asked, “What did Emily say?”
“I didn’t answer the call.” Lucy replied, standing up from the sofa as she spoke.
“You didn’t answer? What if it was important? You know she’s pregnant. If something happened, can you take responsibility for it?” His tone was sharp, and his words struck her like knives.
At that moment, Lucy’s heart sank into a deep abyss. He was right, how could she take responsibility? From now on, resolved to remember to answer Emily’s call for him.
she
As long as she viewed herself not as his wife but merely as a subordinate, there wouldn’t be a problem. She reminded herself of this and said softly, “I’ll remember next time.”
Christopher looked at her and, seeing her sincerity, chose not to say anything further. Instead, he picked up his phone to call
back.
The honey? It’s in the kitchen, second cabinet from the top by the door. Be careful not to hurt yourself. Yes…..”
He spoke into the phone with patience and precision, offering detailed directions about where Emily’s honey was stored in her own home. His familiarity with her place was unmistakable.
He loves Emily. They even have a child together.
Lucy silently warned herself. Stop thinking, he wasn’t yours. There were nothing more than a couple in name only. He had no feelings for her at all.

After a moment, he reached into his pocket and pulled something out. “Your phone.” He said, his tone softer than before.
Upon seeing her phone, she realized she had left it in the bathroom earlier and quickly stepped forward to take it.
“Thank you.” She said, holding it with both hands.
Christopher hesitated, not immediately releasing the phone. The pink glitter phone case caught his eye, it was as bright and radiant, reminiscent of how her eyes used to shine when she smiled.
But now……
She looked up at him. “Thank you.” She repeated softly. This time, Christopher snapped out of his thoughts and released the phone.
Lucy turned away and noticed unread messages on her phone. She sat on the sofa and began to read them.
Among them was a missed call from Nick, which she hadn’t seen earlier. Christopher had noticed but hadn’t answered it
either.
Nick. The name felt vaguely familiar.
After finishing her replies, she placed a blanket on the sofa and stood up. When she saw Christopher still nearby, she said, “Mr. Dale, I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight. Goodnight.”
Christopher turned to her, his expression unreadable. “Lucy?”
“Yes?” She replied.
“No man makes a woman sleep on the sofa.” He said firmly.
