Chapter 73
“What if the enemies get in us while we’re busy choosing our next king!”
Declan nodded, seeing the way Lauren suddenly looked down and fidgeted before she regained composure. He was trying to read her, but unlike before, he no longer trusted his gut.
Lauren has become so unreadable, he couldn’t anticipate what she really wanted. He didn’t w
want to hurt her any more.
But one word from her, that she was willing to be known as his, and he will shout it to the world that she was

Her hand instinctively went to her neck. Her fingers felt the rough surface of the wound patch that the healer put on it.
As if turned by a switch in thought, she felt the subtle pain that came from her deep wound.
She knew it was a deep wound. She remembered the feeling of those fangs digging itself so deeply into her flesh, she felt like it was tearing her
apart.
She even wondered how her skin hadn’t peeled off from it. She remembered the burn that quickly devoured her entire system. The feeling are her

Her eyes widened.
“Why am I awake?”
She whipped her head towards Declan who was looking all stern and cold once again, gone was the concerned and worried look.
If not for the curiosity that filled her, she would have been intimidated and scared
“What happened to me? Why why am I awake!”
Lauren knew that their time to travel towards Black Ridges would be soon, but when Declan told them they were going in a few hours, it just truly sunk in her what was going to happen.
I’m going back to Black Ridges Pack after five years; she thought as Declan and the rest of the council of Rocky Mountains Pack talked about some changes with their absence. They talked mainly about what happened and what extra measures they were going to take that the danger was imminent.
And the topic went back to her. To the curious case of how she awake now w when venom had coursed through her veins.
Lauren also couldn’t help asking the same. No, she wasn’t offended as others‘ thought she would be when they repeatedly asked that question. She didn’t mind, because she, too, is curious herself.
Claire said it must have been because the venom wasn’t directed on a vein that’s why she was able to survive it. And her immune system must have fought the toxic foreign substance.
Nonetheless, Lauren knew it caused the weird sensation she has been feeling since that day.
“Are you okay!” Declan’s voice woke Lauren up to the present. She looked at him and his magnificent presence once again teininded her that they were travelling
“Y–Yeah,” she mumbled, looking around as the sun glared at them through the huge rocks they were passing by. She looked at Dahlia and Damon who were at the back of two huge wolves that traveled with them towards Black Ridges.

She didn’t know all of those things she’s learned about them were true. She only knew about how quick they were which was proven to be right. But it now made sense why they attacked mostly at the wee hours of the day to catch paper off guard,
So, now that the sun was full blown out in the sky, they’re safe,
“We’re halfway there. You can take a rest at the corner Declan pointed at a flat surface where another huge rock laid. They have been traveling for hours, and as much as he wanted this to be quicker, he also didn’t want Lauren and the children to feel uncomfortable.
The travel towards the North was hard enough, he wanted to make it easier for them.
Lauren didn’t mind, though. Or more like her mind was occupied with something else.
She looked back at the distant pathway that led to the entrance of the pack. It’s been five years since she visited the place for the first time. And going away felt weird now.

That was the only conversation they had during the entire travel. They were accompanied by several other guards from the Black Ridges Pack. BU throughought the travel. Declan kept his eyes on them.
It didn’t take long before the entire afternoon went by, at the same time the entrance towards the northern pack came bright in their eyes.
Lauren was getting worried about the sun setting, and her muscles had started to ache an hour ago. But to see the place she ran away from again made all the tension in her muscles tighten a bit more.
“Welcome home.” Declan announced as he shifted back to his human form. He could see the nervousness eating at Lauren as she swallowed. Her feet had slowed down a bit as they entered the territory. And Declan knew he had to make her feel better.
To s
o say their training was tedious almost feels like an understatement
at this point.
Lauren leaned both of her hands on her knees, sweat falling profusely from her forehead to the sides of her face, to the back of her ears, to her neck–just all over her body. Declan was a monster that barely anyone could keep up.
“Choose your best fighter, he suddenly announced, making all of them look at him.
Although exhausted, Lauren’s eyes continued feasting at the sight of his ripped upper body. She could still remember feeling his smooth skin on her palms. How strong yet soft they felt on her fingers. And the ridges of his alskoenen-
‘Stop it‘ She screamed at her wolf when her thoughts overpowered her again.
Her wolf had been bugging her non–stop over how their mate was showing everybody how strong and good–looking he was, and that he was all theirs.
And Lauren has been trying to pacify her witless wolf–which she continuously failed to do
She sighed and looked down on the ground, heaving up and down, keeping herself from looking at his amazing physique, only to look up again when someone called
“Lauren.
Lauren raised her brows in question when she saw how Erwin and the rest of the trainors, even Yuan, Jasper and Jerome were looking at her.
“Head still up in the clouds?” Declan remarked.
Lauren stood up straight and looked at him. Despite how good he still looked in his sweaty appearance, Lauren could see the irritation and coldness she had seen in those orbs since he called her and Jasper into training
She knew he was pissed. She just didn’t know exactly why.

I was just talking to Jasper. It was a wholesome conversation. Why would he be mad at that?
Laure still had doubts whether he truly cared.
“What?” Lauren muttered when the Main Guard walked towards the middle as the rest of the Council stepped back, until she was left alone with Jerome who was cracking his knuckles
“In position.” Declan announced. Lauren looked around, panicked.
all in exchange for the bargain I asked.
Lauren stilled on her seat as she also felt Jasper freeze.
She looked at everyone and realized something.
Their Council had no idea what the bargain was.
“Have you told everyone yet. Lauren?”
“Tell us what?” Erwin, their advanced training teacher asked, looking at her.
Lauren koked at Declan, but she once again froze on her seat.
Her wolf suddenly yipped in her head when she saw what Derlan was wearing in his finger.
Their wedding ring
Lauren just continued gaping as Declan showed off his hand to everyone. When he saw that Lauren showed no signs of telling everyone, he proclaimed
“Lauren is my wife. And I am taking her with me.”
