Brynn didn’t know why Dr. Caldwell was being so accommodating, but she didn’t bother explaining. Instead, she simply said, “Let’s skip the pleasantries for now–this is an emergency. Could you check on the patient first?”
Hearing this, Dr. Caldwell quickly followed Brynn into the hospital room. After examining Paul’s condition, his expression turned grave.
“This is critical. We need to operate immediately!”
Brenda’s heart sank. Tears welled up in her eyes as she asked anxiously, “Doctor, what are the chances of success?”

Dr. Caldwell hesitated before letting out a sigh. “Your husband’s condition is extremely rare. Even if I personally perform the surgery, the success rate is only 30%.”
As he spoke, a flicker of guilt crossed his face.
He had originally intended to make a good impression on the First Lady, but he hadn’t expected the situation to be this complicated.
Now, forget making a good impression–just keeping the hospital out of trouble would be a challenge.
Brenda’s face turned deathly pale.
“Thirty percent? That’s way too low!”
Sensing her distress, Dr. Caldwell quickly added, “If Dr. Creed assists in the surgery, the odds would improve significantly. The problem is…”
“What is it?” Brenda asked hurriedly.
Dr. Caldwell glanced at Brynn, looking troubled. “Dr. Creed… was just fired.”
He might have been lacking in ethics, but there was no denying that his skills were top–notch.
Brenda was stunned. She hadn’t expected that the doctor they had just encountered was Dr. Creed himself.
She hesitated for a moment, but for Paul’s sake, she was willing to swallow her pride and beg him for help.
Before she could even leave the room, the door suddenly swung open. Dr. Creed, who had been eavesdropping, strolled in with a smug grin.
“Sorry, but I won’t be performing this surgery.”
Dr. Caldwell’s brows knitted together. But considering the urgency of the situation, he softened his stance and said, “Dr. Creed, saving a life is more important than anything else. If you agree to perform the surgery, I may reconsider your termination.”
Dr. Creed rolled his eyes dramatically, looking more arrogant than ever. “Oh, I remember exactly what you said earlier, Director. And let me be clear–I refuse to do this surgery.”
Unless, of course, there was something in it for him.
But these people? A bunch of broke nobodies. What could they possibly offer him?
Seeing Dr. Creed’s stubborn refusal, Brenda’s face slowly filled with despair.
Was Paul really going to…?

Brynn couldn’t bear to watch Brenda suffer like this. After a moment of hesitation, she finally spoke up. “Well… I know a bit about medicine too.”
Dr. Caldwell’s eyes lit up with hope. “May I ask which medical school you graduated from?”
He hadn’t expected the First Lady to have medical expertise!
And “a bit” probably meant she was highly skilled.
She must be modest!
If they happened to be alumni of the same institution, maybe he could even build a connection.
Brynn shook her head, correcting him. “I didn’t study medicine in college.”
Dr. Caldwell blinked in confusion. “What?”
Was she joking?
Brynn knew how unreliable she must have sounded, but she was genuinely trying to help.
So she patiently explained, “I studied traditional medicine. My mentor… isn’t someone I can reveal. But please, trust me.”
Dr. Caldwell hesitated.
That was a hard sell.
Sure, she was the First Lady–but that didn’t mean she could gamble with someone’s life.
“I know it’s difficult to believe me, but… *
Brynn turned to look at Paul, lying unconscious on the hospital bed, teetering between life and death.
“His condition may look dire, but if I apply acupuncture to clear the blood stasis, there’s a very good chance he’ll survive.”
