Just as Brynn pulled up outside the gate, she heard a commotion. She looked in the direction of the noise and saw someone familiar arguing heatedly with the security guard.
“I told you I’m not a thief!” Maris shouted, hands on her hips.
Austin held onto Maris‘ arm, but the latter glared at him and yelled, “If you don’t let me go, I’m calling the police?
Austin scoffed at her threat. “You were caught sneaking around. You’re the one who should be worried about the police.
“You want to call the police, huh? Go ahead. You just saved me the trouble of reporting a thief.
When Austin accused her of being a thief, Maris‘ eyes widened in disbelief and she felt completely insulted.
She said, “Take a good look at my clothes. Do you know how much this outfit costs?”
Maris lifted her chin disdainfully. “This outfit cost me over 20 thousand dollars. You wouldn’t make that much money in a year.”
She thought, ‘How dare a security guard look down on me?‘
Seeing Maris‘ proud look, Austin looked her up and down and sneered. “Come on, anyone can afford knock–offs these days.”
“What do you mean?” Maris‘ eyes widened. “Are you saying what I’m wearing is fake?”
Austin shrugged. “Whether it is real or fake is none of my business. If you’re happy, you can even wear a stocking over your head and no one will care.”
“You-” Maris pointed at Austin, about to curse.
However, Austin cut her off. “Besides, even if you are rich, then what? Just last night, a well–dressed young man tried to pull something shady on one of the residents in our area.”
Austin rolled his eyes. “People like you who look glamorous on the outside are actually the darkest on the inside.”
Maris was about to explode with anger. She couldn’t win in an argument, but she couldn’t run away either. She just thought the security guards in Brynn’s neighborhood were too annoying.
Just as Maris was being pulled out by Austin, she spotted Brynn’s car.
“Wait!” Maris exclaimed, her voice cracking with excitement.
Austin was startled by her sharp voice.
Maris pointed at Brynn who was sitting in the car and shouted, “I’m her mother, not a thief!”
Hearing this, Austin followed Maris‘ hand and immediately recognized Brynn. He thought, ‘Isn’t this Mrs. Johnson? Is the thief her mother?‘
Austin was surprised and subconsciously let go of Maris. The next second, Maris hurried toward Brynn’s car.
Brynn frowned slightly as she saw Maris blocking the car. Then she stopped.
Austin, who had regained his senses, also hurried over. Out of caution, he looked at Brynn and asked, “Mrs. Johnson, this lady says she’s your mother. Is that true?”
Maris, who was standing aside, was secretly pleased to see that Austin changed his attitude. She thought, ‘Didn’t he act all

“You’re just a security guard, yet you dare to insult the parents of the residents here. Looks like you don’t want this job anymore.” Maris pointed at Austin’s nose and cursed, “Just wait. I will definitely complain about you, and you’ll lose your job. Upon hearing this, Austin looked at Brynn nervously, at a loss for what to do. He really thought he was going to be fired.
However, Brynn said in a cold voice, “She’s not my mother. I have nothing to do with her.”
