After Betrayal, I Chose Myself
Chapter 24 Poisoned Desire
“Even if I force you to be mine, I can never have your heart. I won’t pester you anymore.”
Shane lowered his head in silence, surprised at Shirley sudden docility.
Finished.
“I brought this wine today, originally to celebrate our reconciliation… But now, let’s toast to putting the past behind us. Shirley held two glasses of wine, her lips curved in a faint smile as she walked toward him. offering a glass.
Shane took the wine and let out a small breath of relief. He had expected her to cling on, to refuse to let go. Yet now, she seemed to understand and accept things so easily. A weight lifted from his chest, but he did not notice the fleeting, cunning glint in her eyes.
For the partnership between the Ross and Gibson families, cheers! Shirley raised her glass, her smile
flawless
Seeing this, Shane raised his glass as well, responding with a light laugh, “Cheers.”
Both of them tilted their heads back and downed the wine in one go.
As Shirley watched him drink without the slightest suspicion, her victorious smile deepened.
The wine in his glass had already been laced with an aphrodisiac. Soon, the drug would take effect. clouding his mind with uncontrollable desire.
Once she and Shane spent the night together, all she had to do was put on a pitiful act before their families. She would claim he had taken advantage of her, forcing their elders to uphold the marriage
agreement
With her acting skills and the weight of their family tick, she knew she could make him submit.
The wine coursed through Shane’s veins, and a slight flush crept up his cheeks. He exhaled, a hint of guilt in his voice, “Shirley, our families‘ engagement… It was me who broke it. I owe you an apology. Don’t worry, I will…”
Before he could finish his sentence, something felt off heat surged through his body, searing and relentless. A restless fire ignited in his chest, spreading downward…
This feeling. Could it be…?
“Shirley, did you drug me?” Shane stared at her in disbelief, only to see the gentle smile on her lips twist into a sinister, victorious smirk, confirming his worst fears.
“Shane, did you really think I’d let you go so easily? From childhood till now, whatever I can’t have, no one. else can either! Yes, I drugged you. But this is merely what I deserve!”
Shane’s gaze locked onto her face, now warped with hatred. He wanted to say something, to rebuke her, but his consciousness was slipping away, his body betraying him.
The last thing he saw was Shirley stepping closer, her fingers reaching for his tie, then slowly undoing the buttons of his shirt….
Suddenly, a shrill phone ring pierced through the tense air, freezing Shirley in her movements and

Chapter 24 Poisoned Desire
Shirley glanced at the caller ID. It was Naomi. Her brow furrowed in annoyance.
Frished
Before Shane could feel any relief at the perfectly timed call, Shirley answered it first. He reached out to snatch the phone, but his body had already lost all strength. How could he overpower her now?
Bringing the phone to her car, Shirley deliberately lowered her voice to a sultry tone. “Hello, Naomi?”
Hearing Shirley’s voice on the other end. Naomi’s eyebrows shot up. “Why do you have Shane’s phone?”
Shirley’s voice was laced with amusement and malice. “Naomi, it’s late at night. A man and a woman, alone together… What do you think?”
Naomi remained silent.
Shirley chuckled, eyes filled with mockery. “I’m sorry, but Shane is right here beside me, Completely naked, burning with desire. Your call really couldn’t have come at a worse time…
“Shirley.” Naomi’s voice was sharp and cold. “Do you really think I’d believe you that easily?”
“If you don’t believe me, why don’t I let you hear for yourself?” Withouation, Shirley shoved Shane
forcefully. In his drugged, weakened state, he let out an involuntary groan, his voice tinged with unmistakable sensuality.
On the other end, Naomi’s grip on her phone stiffened. That voice… It was undeniably Shane.
Just hours ago, he had confessed to her, shared a candlelit dinner with her, wearing an expression of unwavering devotion. And now, at this moment, he was lying beside another woman?
Is this the real Shane, or is his sincerity nothing but a facade? Or is there another explanation?
Meanwhile, inside the apartment, Shane was growing desperate. That groan, it was just the effect of the drug. If Naomi misunderstood now, everything he had carefully planned to make her happy today would
be ruined!
His blurred gaze landed on the glass sitting on the table Summoning the last shred of strength left in his body, he reached out. And with all his might, sent the glass crashing to the ground.
Shirley noticed his frantic resistance and whispered fiercely, “Stop moving!”
