Chapter 5
At the wedding venue the next day, everything was going according to plan, just as Luke had envisioned.
Yet, an unsettling feeling gnawed at him.
It only worsened when he saw Queenie in the dressing room, draped in her luxurious designer wedding gown.
Just then, Michael walked in with a USB drive in his hand. He hesitated, then said, “Mr. Quinton, are you sure you want these
videos to be played in front of the media? If we do this, Ms. Johnson will be completely ruined.”
Luke’s mind flashed back to the first time Natalie had arrived at the Quinton family’s residence. Back then, she was timidly
clinging to her mother’s side, and she greeted him shyly in a soft voice.
In his eyes, Natalie looked like an angel who had descended to earth–beautiful, sweet, and obedient.
As the memory flashed in his mind, Luke’s heart softened, and he reached out for the USB drive to destroy it.
But before he could do anything, Harvey burst into the hall, looking as pale as a ghost.
“Luke, something terrible has happened! There was a gas explosion at your house last night! Natalie didn’t make it out. She was
burned alive. The police need you to identify the body.”
Luke swayed on his feet.
A murmur rippled through the crowd, but he didn’t care.
His face drained of blood as he tightly gripped Harvey’s collar. His voice trembled as he asked, “W–what did you just say? Say it again! What happened to Natalie?!”
No one had ever seen Luke lose control like this. The entire room fell into stunned silence.
Queenie bit her lip and gently tugged on Luke’s sleeve. “Luke, don’t panic. Whatever it is, we can deal with it after the wedding. Everyone’s watching.”
Luke ignored her completely. Instead, his grip on Harvey’s collar tightened. “Tell me! I just spoke to her last night! How could
she…”
“I swear I’m not lying, Luke,” Harvey choked out. “The police couldn’t reach you, so they called me instead. You need to go now.”
