Queenie suddenly let out a mocking laugh. “Harvey, what kind of spell did Natalie put on you? Are you seriously helping her lie to Luke? That has to be the worst excuse I’ve ever heard.”
She turned to Luke, her voice dripping with scorn. “See? What did I tell you? Natalie would do anything to stop our wedding. She’s nothing but a manipulative little snake–she’s even got your best friend wrapped around her finger. This whole fake death stunt? It’s just a ploy to make you abandon me and go running back to her. Don’t fall for it.”
Queenie had said things like this before.

Back when I first arrived at the Quinton family’s residence, when Luke had still been thrilled about having a new little sister, Queenie had secretly said to him, “Luke, Natalie’s mother is a homewrecker. I saw her and your father sneaking around with my
own eyes. Don’t let her and her mother’s innocent act fool you.
“Your mother died because of them. You have to avenge her!
“A homewrecker’s daughter will never be anything good. They’re just after your family’s money. Don’t let Natalie seduce you!”
Queenie had grown up with Luke, and he had always believed her without question.
If this were before, he would have calmed down, pushed aside his doubts, and trusted her again.
But now
As he stared at the smug satisfaction on Queenie’s face, an inexplicable fear crawled up his spine.
He hated Natalie.
He hated her so much he wanted to rip her apart, tear her to the bone, drink her blood, and crush her underfoot.
But every time Natalie smiled at him, something inside him stirred–like a feather brushing against his heart. It left behind an
itch he couldn’t scratch, and an ache he couldn’t name..
The pain and hatred twisted together, tormenting him night after night. When he closed his eyes, all he could see was Natalie’s
face.
So, he had chosen to destroy her.
To erase the one person who made him feel like he had lost control.
Yet, hearing the news of her death was like a dull knife plunging into his chest, slicing through him with slow, excruciating pain.
He could barely breathe.
When Luke remained silent, Queenie’s eyes reddened as tears welled up.
Normally, at the sight of her delicate, pitiful expression, Luke would have instinctively pulled her into his arms and murmur
reassurances.
But now, he found it utterly disgusting.
Just as he was about to lash out at her, Harvey anxiously shoved his phone in his face.
“Look, Luke! I’m not lying. The explosion is already on the news!”
