Chapter 5
I turned off my phone and disappeared for half a month.
According to Daisy, Xavier was nearly going insane looking for me.
After being discharged from the hospital, the first thing I did was bring the divorce agreement to meet him.
Xavier remained silent for a moment, then laughed coldly. He briefly scanned the divorce agreement before tossing it onto the table. He stared at my stomach and said in a slow, deliberately soft tone: “Before we divorce, don’t we have something else to discuss?”
I maintained a composed expression and responded calmly: “We did before, but not anymore. I’ve already gotten rid of the baby. You can rest assured there won’t be any loose ends.”
Hearing this, Xavier’s eyes widened in shock.

He lowered his head and suddenly started laughing: “Sabrina, you disappeared for half a month just to do this? While I was worried sick about you, searching the entire country for pendant restoration experts, this is how you repay me?”
He yanked me down onto the sofa, pinning me beneath him as he demanded fiercely: “Why would you do this to me? How dare you! How could you!”
Perhaps it was because I had been too compliant in the past. Everyone, including Xavier himself, thought I loved him with every fiber of my being.
I looked up at Xavier and gently caressed his cheek.
Chapter 5
My voice remained steady: “Xavier, the person I loved was never you. You look hideous when you’re angry. You’re becoming less and less like him.”
Initially, using Xavier as a substitute did provide me with some comfort.

But as time passed, I realized that whether he smiled or not, he wasn’t the person in my memories. Even his embrace lacked the warmth I remembered.
I had long since grown weary of this charade of self–deception.
Xavier understood who “he” was in my words. The next second, his tears fell
onto my cheeks.
How strange. The always superior Xavier, who hadn’t shed a tear even when
Rachel left, was now crying for me.
The scene was utterly absurd and sickening.
I wiped his tears from my face in disgust and said bluntly: “Don’t feel wronged. Our marriage was always a transaction. You used me as a tool to get back at Rachel, and I used you as a substitute for comfort. We’re even…”
Before I could finish, Xavier roughly interrupted me. His eyes were rimmed red, his expression resembling that of an abandoned puppy.
His voice carried suppressed devastation: “Sabrina, you have no right to say we’re even! Do you know what? When I gave Rachel that ring, I felt nothing. I desperately tried to recapture what we once had, but all I could think about was you! During the days you were gone, I was so anxious I’d wake up in the middle of the night. Sabrina, you made me fall in love with you, and now you want to just walk away? We’re even? Fuck that!”
Chapter 5
As he spoke, he gripped my face, like a cornered wolf baring its fangs, and threatened through gritted teeth: “Want a divorce? Keep dreaming!”
Just then, Rachel, who had been eavesdropping from the bedroom, emerged looking distraught and stood in the center of the living room. She asked chokingly: “Xavier, what are you saying?”
