Chapter 5
Addison clearly hadn’t anticipated my arrival. Just as Kai stepped toward the hospital bed, she threw herself into his arms without hesitation. Almost instinctively, he caught her. The worry and tension in his eyes were all too real.
Then, she planted a loud kiss right on his cheek.
Just as Kai stood there frozen–neither holding her tighter nor letting go–Addison finally turned her head and saw me standing at the door.
I calmly slipped my phone back into my pocket, having just sent the video I recorded–the whole affectionate scene–to her father.
Along with it, I included the screenshots of the messages where she threatened me before the wedding, plus the videos she sent to taunt me. All of them were neatly packaged and forwarded. The Yale family came from an educated, well–regarded background. They were strict, principled, and dignified. From the first time we met, I could tell that even the best families could end up with a bad apple.
Mr. and Mrs. Yale hadn’t shown up at the wedding, which only confirmed my suspicion–they had no idea what their precious daughter had been up to. Therefore, I had to show them how skilled Addison had been at humiliating another woman.
Addison was displeased. “What’s she doing here? She’s going to ruin my mood and affect the opera—”
I placed the carnations in the vase by her bed. “I wish you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.”
She was speechless.
I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and softly said, “This community boyfriend of yours? Yeah, the one who can’t keep his affection for one woman for more than five minutes? You’re more than welcome to keep him. I don’t do shared subscriptions.”
With that, I left the ward. I was mostly worried she would try to pull something on me.
As soon as I left, heard the sound of a shattering vase from the ward. Then, it was Addison’s faint sobs and Kai’s prompt consolation.
The door opened and closed again, and out came Kai. He approached me with furrowed brows, questioning, “What did you tell her? You know she’s a patient, yet-”
“Yeah, yeah. She’s sick.” My mouth twitched. “You can cling to her all you want, but I’m not sticking around.”
He stated, “Her condition hasn’t stabilized yet, so I’m staying at the hospital tonight.”
I leaned forward and peeked through the window, just in time to see Addison glaring at me intensely. She looked perfectly fine–lively and energetic, nothing like someone who was supposed to be unstable.
I gave a slight nod. “You don’t have to inform me,”
After all, we were no longer entangled with each other.
He held my hand. You’ll understand, right? She loves me more than anyone, and with such a high–risk surgery, I can’t let her leave this world with regrets…”
Before I could tell hira we had already broken up and that where he slept tonight had nothing to do with me, he was called away by Addison again.
Kai dashed into the ward, working like a busy bee.
