Chapter 6
When I returned home, I gave a brief explanation to Mom and Dad before heading back to my place. My sleep that night was restful.
The next time I opened my eyes, it was already a new day.
As expected, Addison had posted about her successful surgery on social media. I gave her a “Like” as I was genuinely happy for her.
I had barely taken more than two bites of my breakfast when Kai showed up at my doorstep again.
The apartment my parents bought was located just above their unit, while the Harmon siblings lived beside me.
So, naturally, when Kai pressed the doorbell, Peach heard it, too. Sure enough, there was a commotion after that.
I opened the door and saw him drenched in water, looking more pathetic than ever.
When he saw me, he swallowed his anger and flashed me a smile. “I bought you breakfast.”
My gaze swept across the sandwich in his hand. “Has Addison eaten?”
“Lexi, I know I’ve done a bad job handling the matter. Now that Addison has completed her surgery, she’ll be out of our way from now on. Would you forgive me, please?” How genuine. Sure, he sounded sincere and whatnot, but he didn’t bother to dodge when Addison threw herself at him and kissed him.
What used to be a quality I admired in him now turned into plain shamelessness.
Kai continued, “I know you’ll forgive me. It’s just a matter of time. It’ll happen as long as I’m sincere.”
He headed into my living room without permission. “Come have your breakfast while it’s hot.”
I thought the situation was amusing. “Are you still thinking about holding another wedding ceremony?”
He seemed to think I would convince myself to forgive him sooner or later, so my “compromise” seemed within his expectations. In fact, I looked like I had “doormat” written on my forehead.
I continued asking, “And are you also planning to invite the same guests who saw you and Addison get married?”
His expression turned grim.
I broke into a laugh. “You’re so full of yourself, Kai. We’ve already broken up. Got it?”
Kai was in disbelief. Though he had pursued ine, he had always been the one who wore the pants in the relationship. He knew that, despite my fierceness, I was clueless about love. That said, he wasn’t the only one who had compromised in the relationship.
Kai held my hand tightly. “I don’t consent to breaking up. Now, I know you’re just saying it out of spite. Will you finally stop being mad at me, Lexi?”
Meanwhile, Peach glanced at her phone and suddenly pulled me away from Kai, frantic. For once, she solemnly said, “Come with me. Clement is trying to jump off the rooftop.” Immediately, Peach and I headed to the rooftop, with Kai tagging behind.
The building was tall, with more than 30 stories in total.
Clementine stood on the other side of the railing on the roof. Thankfully, there was a distance between the railing and the edge, so he didn’t seem so vulnerable. Peach was anxious. “Get down, Clement! Let’s talk!”
Clementine ignored her and fixed his gaze on me. “I’ll only speak to Alexandra‘

My name was Alexandra Layton. Due to my fierce and confident nature growing up, my friends would call me Lexi so that I appeared more feminine and approachable. However, this young man before me was the only one who had ever called me by my name.
I remembered when he consulted me for academic advice when he got into the same college as I did. Time flew, and he was already a working adult.
At that thought, I stepped forward and softly coaxed him, “I’ll listen, but could you sit down first?”
Clementine’s ears were red, and he used a stiff tone to utter, “I’ve had a crush on you for eight years.” He enunciated each word like he was reading off a script.
