Chapter 7
Clementine glanced at Kai. “I’ve had a crush on you a year earlier than him.”
Kai was confused, not knowing what was happening.
Clementine continued, “I wanted to confess to you, but you told me you were into someone else.”
I was in a momentary daze.
It happened during the year when Kai and I first dated. Clementine had enrolled in our college and asked me plenty of questions for advice.
Back then, Kai was always jealous, and I made up an excuse that I was busy with assignments to stay away from Clementine.
I couldn’t help but feel bitter. Did Kai really not understand basic boundaries? No, he simply couldn’t care less about respecting my boundaries. Instead, he exploited my deference time and again.
Slowly, Clementine’s words sounded more natural. “I thought you’d be happy, so I watched you marry him. Yet, are you still trying to forgive him after the humiliation he’d put you through on your wedding day?”
His voice cracked due to his overflowing passion and anger.
Peach looked away, trying not to get secondhand embarrassment.
Clementine seemingly felt embarrassed as well, clearing his throat immediately. He added, “Anyway, I’ll jump if you’re gonna forgive him.”
I let out a couple of dry coughs. “I won’t, so come back over the fence.”
“Really?”
I nodded earnestly. “Really.”
Clementine was ready to climb over the railing and return to safety, finally easing my anxiousness, but Peach suddenly cleared her throat.
As such, he could only return to his position. With a frown, he said, “No way. What if you’re lying to me?”
Kai parted his lips, intending to say something, but zipped them shut when I shot him a glance.
Then, assured Clementine. “I promise you.”
“I need it in writing!”
After some careful consideration, he suddenly proposed, “Why don’t you marry me?”
“Sure,” I answered immediately.
Kai couldn’t believe me. “Lexi…” His eyes were brimming with emotion. “Are you seriously going to let go of our seven–year relationship for him?”
He knew I had a soft spot for men who cried, but they had to be handsome and someone I had feelings for.
Truth be told, I had long gotten sick of his face when I saw the photos of him and Addison trying on wedding gowns.
I decided to use his words against him. With annoyance, I said, “Should I watch him die, then? It’s just a trip to the courthouse. Have some compassion.” Clementine added, “You’ve only dated her for seven years, while I’ve had a crush on her for eight years. In fact, I knew her since we were in diapers.” At that moment, all the negative feelings I felt vanished. Instead, I was stifling my laugh because of his words.
Kai warned me,
“I know you’re doing this out of spite. Just don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
With that, he left dejectedly.
Peach gestured a thumbs up toward his departing figure, then made fun of the way he spoke. I was seriously amused by the Harmon siblings.
