Unsurprisingly, my father assumed that I had hurt Suzy intentionally.
I did not bother to defend myself. “Think whatever you want.‘

You ungrateful wretch!” My father was furious. He kicked me. Over the years, his blows had grown to become a grim routine. “Suzy’s blind because of you! You should give her your eyes!”

I couldn’t believe my ears, “If I give her my eyes, then what would happen to me?”
“It’s not like you have a future to speak of,” my mother cried, tugging at my shirt, “Suzy is a college graduate, She will be successful in the future. She can’t go blind!”
My heart ached from the pain of those words,
“Unbelievable! What kind of parents are these?”
“Why didn’t they donate their own corneas? How can they even say that?”
“This Suzy woman’s the worst. She should be the one to stand on trial!”
The comments had turned against Suzy,
My mother was crying, My father lowered his head.
Suzy was dragged back into the courtroom, flanked by two guards who forced her to sit down.
“She was trying to escape through the emergency exit,” one of the guards reported.
Suzy’s head was lowered. Without the shield of her sunglasses, it was clear that she was panicking,
“You’ve ruined Wendy!” my mother screamed as she lunged at her.
Suzy turned away to avoid the blows. She grabbed my mother by her hair and pushed her away violently, Glaring fiercely, she shrieked, “Stop pretending to be the good guy. It’s not like I told you what to do!”
My father stood up, jabbing a finger at Suzy with an anguished expression. “We’ve treated you like our own daughter all this time. I can’t believe you’ve treated Wendy like this behind our backs!”
Suzy scoffed, “Stop pretending to be righteous, Uncle Fred. It’s not like you didn’t spend my parents‘ insurance money.”
Hearing that, my parents‘ expressions changed dramatically.
