Darlene suddenly drew a knife out from her back and thrust it toward me.
I wasn’t able to get away in time. I was so terrified that I just froze and shut my eyes tightly.
Squelch!
There was the sound of the blade sinking into flesh, but the expected pain didn’t happen.
I quickly opened my eyes again and saw that Colton had somehow rushed out from nowhere and shielded me behind him. There was an ugly gash in his lower abdomen as blood continued spilling out.
“Colton! Are you okay?”
Darlene was shocked. She threw the knife away and wanted to run into Colton’s arms. However, he shoved her aside and turned around with much difficulty before cradling me.
“Gianna, are you hurt anywhere?”
My mind had gone completely blank. However, tears wouldn’t stop gushing from my eyes.
The surrounding crowd immediately called the police. When the ambulance came to take Colton away, he reached out toward me with his outstretched arm, trying to hold my hand.
I looked at the bloody handprint on my arm and couldn’t hold myself back any longer. In the end, I followed him to the hospital in my car.
The knife had pierced deep into Colton at a very vital part of his body. He remained in the emergency room for a very long period of time before he was finally stabilized.
I looked at the man lying in bed, seemingly in a deep sleep. Ten years had passed, but time never seemed to have left any aging marks on him. On the contrary, he seemed to have gained some temperament over the years.
He wasn’t very much different from the same man I’d been deeply in love with.
However, it was also precisely because of him that I was hurt and broken all over.
When only the two of us were left in the ward, Colton’s eyelashes quivered very slightly. Then, he slowly opened his eyes.
He saw me keeping vigil next to his bed and brightened up at once. But, his expression very quickly turned wary and apologetic.
