chapter 28
Jasper thought momentarily before responding flatly, “No need. If she wants to come along, let her.”
As they reached the dormitory’s first floor, they spotted a woman waiting there. She had short hair, thick eyebrows, and big eyes. She wore a red dress with a yellow scarf tied around her pack, white leather high heels, and a leather lug
Sheeded a distinctive fashionable vibe typical of women from Guclesh. Her demeanor radiated confidence and pride. It was a pride unique to the children of officials–a sense of superiority acovitulated from childhood
Sophie McClure had already seen Jasper’s photo countless times, so she recognized him immediately. She approached him with a bright smile and said, ‘You must be Mr. Jasper Locke! Sophie McClure, the new doctor at the bare. I’m looking forward to working with you.”
Jasper’s expression remained impassive as he looked at her, simply acknowledging hot with a nod
Sophie had heard about his aloof personality, but she didn’t expect him to be this cold. Her smile faltered momentarily before she quickly sought to change the subject
“And who is this?” she asked, glancing at Zachary, who introduced himself.
When she heard his surname was Stone, Sophie’s mind raced through her connections, recalling a deputy commander with the same family name in Kingston Military District. She tentatively asked, “Are you from Kingston, Mr. Stone?”
when he nodded, she asked again, “Do your parents also work in the military?”
Zachary nodded once more.
Just as she was about to ask if Samuel Scone was his father, Jasper interrupted coolly, “Are you here to check on our backgrounds?”
“N–No,” Sophie stammered, quickly waving her hands in denial, refraining from pursuing her question about Zachary
The three of themde silent as they walked to the parking loc
Jasper opened the door of one of the military green Jeeps and settled into the diver’s seat. This whicle was assigned to the base, and he had permission to use it
Zachary naturally went to open the door for the passenger seat, but before he could sit down, Sophie jumped into the passenger seat ahead of him
Turning back, she flashed an apologetic smile and wicked at him. ‘T get carsick, so I can’t sit in the back“.
“It’s fine,” Zachary replied with a knowing smile before closing the door for her and settling into the back seat instead.
She soon understood the meaning behind that smile.
Jasper slammed on the gas pedal while Sophie was still fastening her seatbelt, and the vehicle roared forward. She was jolted back in her seat as if she had been shot from a cannon, nearly himing the windshield
Sophie screamed in fright, quickly grabbing the overhead handle to steady herself.
Meanwhile, Jasper showed no intention of slowing down as the jeep sped along the suburban roads, kicking up dust behind them.
