“Mitchell, the world is so big, and Heather has made up her mind to leave. How are you going to find her? What happened at the wedding was witnessed by so many people. News of this has spread throughout Kennethville, and it won’t just affect you–it’ll affect the entire Bennett. Corporation. The best thing you can do now is to step up with Bethany, clear the air, and let the PR team handle it
Mitchell cut her off before she could say more, his voice firm and final. “Mom, don’t try to talk me out of it. No matter what, I have to find Heather. If she comes back, even if she hits me or yells at me, I’ll accept it. But giving up on finding her is like asking me to give up on living.”
So, no matter what it took, he was determined to find Heather.
He finished speaking, and without another word, Mitchell rushed out of the house, heading straight to the office. The scandals about him, long buried, were now resurfacing, but at that moment, he couldn’t care less.
Kennethville was constantly bustling with cars and planes, too many to count. His assistant managed to obtain the information of every flight and train that left the city on the day of the wedding.
After days of searching, Mitchell discovered that Heather had purchased tickets for over ten cities in the country and six countries abroad on that very day.
Mitchell stared at the list of nearly twenty destinations on his desk, a bitter smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Heather was determined to disappear without a trace.
Even knowing this, Mitchell couldn’t bring himself to give up on her.
One by one, he crossed off the locations, but it felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. Despair overwhelmed him again.
In the five days since the wedding, he had slept for less than five hours in total, spending the rest of his time trying to track down Heather’s whereabouts, but he had come up empty.
On the sixth day, while giving his assistant another task, exhaustion took its toll, and Mitchell collapsed right there.
He was unconscious for an entire day and night. When he finally woke up, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.
He yanked the IV out of his arm, ready to leave, but as soon as he stood, someone stopped him.
“Mitchell, Mom said you haven’t rested in days. You should take care of yourself before you leave. I’ll be worried if you don’t.”
Only then did Mitchell notice that Bethany was in the room with him.
His face immediately hardened, and he pushed Bethany’s hand away.

Chapter 12
“Know your place. You don’t get to call my mother that.
Bethany, carefully cradling her visibly pregnant belly, couldn’t hide the joy in her voice. “We’re married now, and we’re having twins. Everyone saw our wedding. Mom’s already accepted me. Yesterday, she even helped me picknames for the kids. Mitchell, tell me, which ones do you like?”
In that moment, the thread of reason in Mitchell’s mind snapped.
He grabbed Bethany by the throat, his fingers tightening with fury.
