Natalie was puzzled. Why was the original subject so insistent on her getting married? She seemed even more eager than her mother, which was rather annoying Still, she smiled and replied, “I understand, Phoebe.”
Thinking she had gotten through to her, Phoebe wore a satisfied expression.
Once she left the room, Natalie quickly tidied up her desk. Sharing a bedroom meant little privacy, so it would be best for her to write outside in the future instead of at home.

Natalie jumped a little, placing her hand on her chest. “What’s wrong, Evelyn?”
Evelyn glanced around to ensure no one else was nearby before speaking. “Since we have guests coming tomorrow, Mrs. Locke told me to make two new dishes instead of the usual ones. I’ve been thinking but couldn’t develop new recipes, so I wanted to ask you.”

Natalie nodded, saying, “Okay, don’t worry. I’ll go upstairs and write down Evelyn chuckled. “Great!”

“I got it. Thanks for the heads–up, Evelyn,” Natalie replied, nodding as she headed upstairs.
She already know who was coming and was aware of the big event set to unfold the next day. However, this time, she w the original subject.

For some reason, as soon as she lay down, her mind replayed memories of her time with Jasper.
First, it was the image of him slamming the car door as he left that day. Then, it shifted to the two of them watching a movie together. Next came the memory of him buying her a dress.
Meanwhile, Jasper lay in bed at the aviation squadron, still fuming inside
His proud and aloof nature made it impossible for him to cling to someone or force himself on anyone. So, when he heard the words “Not possible. Absolutely not“, his pride compelled him to walk away.
It was best to cut off any budding feelings early on if it was impossible.
He would never lower himself before a woman,
Forcing himself to clear his mind, he drifted into sleep.
