This should’ve been proof of Shawn’s charm, but he belatedly realized how embarrassing it was to admit that he’d cheated. This was especially true since Noelle had left him because of it.
The police officer asked, “So, did your wife leave because of your affair?”
Shawn didn’t say anything and instead nodded with an odd look on his face. Fortunately, a call from an unknown number saved him from the awkwardness. He answered it, hoping it was
Noelle.
The man
n on the other end of the line claimed to be a lawyer. “Am I speaking to Mr. Shawn Pitt? I’m a lawyer appointed by Ms. Noelle Anderson, and I have something to discuss with you. Is it convenient for you to come over now?”
“Of course! I’ll be right there!” Shawn didn’t even have time to explain the situation to the police. He lied about having something to do before driving to the law firm at top speed.
All he wanted to do was meet the lawyer and convince Noelle to return with him, so he wasn’t bothered when he ran red lights and heard insults from passersby on his way there.
When he arrived at the law firm, the lawyer handed him a divorce agreement. He didn’t even notice it as he looked around the place. “Where’s Noelle?” he asked anxiously. “Does she still refuse to see me? I have something to tell her, so ask her to come out!”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t do that,” the lawyer answered. “Ms. Anderson isn’t here. She has authorized our law firm to handle all matters related to the divorce. If you have any questions or objections, you can discuss them directly with me, Mr. Pitt.”
The lawyer held up the divorce agreement, and only then did Shawn notice it. His expression turned hideous. He grabbed it and glanced at it before ripping it to shreds, tossing the pieces into the air like confetti.
“There’s no way I’ll agree to a divorce!” he snarled.
