“There’s no way I’ll agree to a divorce!” he snarled.
His eyes turned red as he continued, “I made a mistake, but so will every other man in this world! I know I’ve done her wrong–I swear I won’t see anyone that she doesn’t like anymore. Isn’t that enough?”
Noelle loved him so. He was confident he could make her change her mind as long as she was willing to see him.
The lawyer smiled and said, “Since you already know you’re the one at fault, you should also be aware that a divorce agreement isn’t the only way for a couple to be separated. There’s also à court–ruled divorce. Ms. Anderson has made it clear that I’m to take you to court if you refuse to sign.”
Is she not even going to talk to me in person about this?” Shawn looked at him in disbelief. He tried to catch hints of the lawyer lying.

The lawyer merely offered a polite smile and said “Ms. Anderson said that she doesn’t want to see you. She’s already conveyed everything that she needs to in a letter.”
Shawn let out a derisive laugh. “Is that even called a letter? It was two sentences! Whatever it is, I’m not going to sign the papers. I’ve already ripped them. I want to see her in person.”
His heart hurt like hell. He felt like something important had been gouged out of his chest.
The lawyer had expected Shawn to react like this. He waited until Shawn calmed down before opening a folder and retrieving a fresh copy of the divorce agreement. “Ms. Anderson did mention that you would tear the first copy. So, I prepared another one.”
Shawn was furious. He grabbed the agreement and made to tear it.
The lawyer chuckled and said, “You can tear as many copies as you want, Mr. Pitt. Ms. Anderson has already gone through the original and signed it, anyway. I can make more coples after you’ve torn this one. I can claim the fees, after all.”
Shawn immediately slumped, feeling like his strength had been zapped away. His expression turned pleading, and he said, “I’m sorry for my attitude earlier. Can you please tell me where Noelle is?”
The lawyer’s expression remained unchanged. “I’m sorry, Mr. Pitt. I don’t know the answer to that.”
In other words, Noelle had made it clear that she didn’t want to see Shawn anymore, even if it was just one last time.
Shawn’s attitude took a turn for the nicer. He asked amicably, “How about this? I’ll pay you ten …no, 50 million dollars in exchange for her location.”
“I can’t disclose any information that my client doesn’t want me to disclose, Mr. Pitt.”
“This is just one client. 50 million dollars is more than enough for you to set up your own law firm or even retire. You won’t need to bother about finding partners! This is a good deal.” Shawn tried to make the lawyer cave.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work. “I would love to become rich overnight, but it means more to me to earn that money through my hard work here. Besides, I genuinely have no idea where Ms. Anderson is. She’s only ever contacted me over the phone after instructing me to draft the divorce agreement.”
Shawn saw one last sliver of hope in that. “Give me the number she’s currently using! I’ll still pay you the same amount!”
“She used her old number. I tried calling her this morning, but it went unanswered.” The lawyer’s logic was infallible.
The atmosphere turned tense.
