Chapter 21
Noelle merely shrugged it off, saying, “It’s not a big deal. You can just bring me a chair and at stool, and I’ll be able to reach the top.
She was taller than Cameron. If they stacked the stool on top of the chair, she should be able to reach the top of the Christmas tree. They worked together and pretty soon, the Christmas tree was all decorated, filling the room with a festive atmosphere.
to?
Once they were done, Cameron couldn’t help but complain, “What on earth is George up First, he forgot to buy the Christmas lights, and now he’s taking forever to come back! If he says he got lost coming back, I swear…”
After taking a quick look at the clock, Noelle said earnestly, “It’s still early. It’s fine as long as he makes it back for the turkey.”
“Oh no, the turkey!” Cameron exclaimed, realizing that the oven was still running. She then rushed into the kitchen, looking like she had her work cut out for her.
Noelle couldn’t help but chuckle helplessly and continue adorning the Christmas tree with decorations. A while later, she heard a knock at the door and walked over to open it.
There was a tall, good–looking young man standing at the doorstep. He thought it was Cameron who had answered the door, so he eagerly held up the lights and said, “I got the lights-”
He immediately stopped talking after realizing that the person he had been talking to wasn’t Cameron but an unfamiliar woman.
Their eyes met in a steady gaze.
Noelle, on the other hand, wasn’t bothered at all. She smiled faintly and
“You must be George. I’m Cameron’s tenant. She’s currently working on the turkey in….kitchen. She should be out soon.”
George’s eyes were wide with wonder as he stared at Noelle. He didn’t move until Cameron came out of the kitchen, shouting, “Hey! What are you doing just standing there? Come help me with the turkey!”
Finally snapping out of his daze, George carried the string of lights into the kitchen in a manner resembling a large dog. It was only after Cameron reminded him that he came back out and handed the lights to Noelle.
Although he stood nearly as tall as the Christmas tree, George couldn’t even bring himself to look at Noelle again, his fair complexion tinged with an unmistakable flush.
They gathered around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and enjoyed a feast of turkey and Christmas cookies.
It was during the gift exchange session that George finally mustered the courage to meet Noelle’s gaze. He looked at her with his striking blue eyes and asked, “Will you be my girlfriend?”

It was a straightforward confession, free of any embellishments.
Noelle handed over the Christmas gifts she had prepared for them and said, “I’m sorry, but I’ll eventually leave this place as well.”
“Where will you go?”
“I want to head to the distant lands, like a bird soaring toward the unknown.”
