Sebastian and Jack never cared about me. They never once asked about my side of the family.
Which is why they had no idea that even after Chandler and I cut ties, I kept in touch with his daughter–Stella.
Through Stella, I’d kept tabs on Chandler’s family over the years.
A few years back, Chandler got seriously ill. After he recovered, he opened a smali convenience store to get by.
I never told Sebastian, but I secretly took on odd jobs–cleaning houses, babysitting –just to scrape together enough money to help Chandler get that store running.
And when Stella graduated and moved to the city for work? Her starting salary was barely enough to survive. For those first couple of years, I quietly sent her money every month to help cover rent and groceries.
Stella never forgot.
Every holiday, she’d check in on me. Sometimes, she’d send me money, calling it pocket money” for me to spend on myself.
She never visited my house—Sebastian hated guests—but we’d meet up now and then. Grab coffee, chat.
Now, she was a successful executive at a major company. And engaged to a lawyer named Zayne.
When she picked up the phone and heard what I had to say, her voice broke.
“Aunt Helena, don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I won’t let those two heartless men get away with this. Zayne and I will do everything we can to send them to prison.”
Her sincere concern made my chest tightened.
This was what real family looks like–people who cared about you without expecting anything in return.
What had I been doing all these years?
I’d poured my heart and soul into those two rotten, soulless men…. and hurt the people who actually cared about me.
“Aunt Helena, we’re on our way. Wait for us.”
Before long, Stella and Zayne arrived at the hospital.

Without wasting time, we went straight to a forensic lab to have the “painkillers” tested. Then we headed to the notary office to finalize the division of marital assets. Unfortunately, the law wasn’t on my side. Since Sebastian and I were still legally married, everything had to be split equally.
I wasn’t happy about it. At all.
However, Zayne reassured me.
“If we get him convicted of attempted murder, all those assets will go to you,” he explained.
With the paperwork done and the test results in motion, I got ready to head home. But Stella grabbed my arm, her expression tight with worry.
“Aunt Helena, you can’t go back. Those two already tried to kill you once. It’s too dangerous. Stay with me for now.”
I shook my head. “I have to go back. There are some things I need to see for myself.”
