But I knew I hadn’t done any of the things they were accusing me of.
Right before I passed out, I remembered seeing Brianna stumble into traffic.
I didn’t see how manipulative she was back then. I actually thought she was just a helpless young woman who needed help.
I froze in panic. The chicken noodle soup I brought her slipped out of my hands, splashing all over my calf and burning me.

eyes, making them burn.
I tried to explain myself, but it was like he wasn’t even listening. He drove like a madman all the way home, locked me in the house, and told me to think about what I’d done.
Thought about what, exactly? The only thing I realized was that his relationship with Brianna had totally changed.
No matter how much I cried or tried to explain, Caleb wouldn’t believe a word I said. I begged him to check the surveillance footage, but he just slammed the door and stormed off.
Before he left, he said, “You’ve already hurt Bri. Do you want me to make her think I don’t trust her? She’s just a friend to me. Why can’t you accept that?”
A tear slipped down my cheek before I even realized it. The next thing I knew, I saw Brianna tumble down the stairs.
Caleb’s brow tightened, and his look at me was icy. “Didn’t I tell you to stay away from her? Why would you do this? You’re being completely unreasonable! Don’t be afraid, Bri. I’ll take you to the hospital.” He lifted Brianna onto his shoulder. Before they left, she shot me a smug grin.
That was the day I first started thinking about divorce and the same day I found out I was pregnant.
