Chapter 24
Lucille was in the middle of trying on her wedding dress when her phone chimed with a few notifications.
She was too busy adjusting the hem of her gown to check it herself.
So, she called out with her head slightly bowed, “Stephen, could you check that message for me?”
Standing nearby, Stephen was dressed in a sleek black tuxedo, which only accentuated his tall, lean frame.
“Sure thing,” he replied.
He leaned casually against the wall, picking up Lucille’s phone. With a few taps, he unlocked it using her initials and birthday. Upon seeing the message from Fiona, Stephen hesitated for a moment before reading it aloud.
“Ayrton and Walter said they want to attend your wedding. What do you think, Lucille? Should we let them?”
you say? 5
There was a hint of jealousy in his voice as he continued, “Lucille, what do we let them crash my wedding?” Stephen took a few steps forward, standing behind Lucille. He gestured for the bridal assistant to step aside, choosing to adjust Lucille’s gown himself.
His tall, broad figure nearly enveloped her as he worked, his long, graceful fingers gliding over the fabric, creating an unspoken intimacy. “Stephen… maybe maybe we shouldn’t invite them,” Lucille stammered, her cheeks warming as she met his intense gaze in the mirror. Stephen chuckled softly, his hand resting on her waist as he gently drew her closer, his other hand brushing a stray lock of hair from her face.
“Lucille, trust me. Trust your husband’s ability. Even if they come to our wedding, they won’t cause any trouble.“3
His chin nestled against her shoulder, his deep, resonant voice vibrating through her, leaving Lucille a bit dazed.
She stared into the mirror, her reflection displaying a rosy hue she hadn’t noticed forming.
Whatever Stephen was saying, she wasn’t really taking in. She simply nodded along, her mind a flurry of emotions. “Okay… sure 7
She felt like she was turning as red as a lobster, her heart pounding uncontrollably in her chest.
Sensing her embarrassment, Stephen’s handsome face broke into a teasing smile.
“Lucille, look at yourself. You’re stunning.”
He teased her playfully.
Lucille’s cheeks flushed even deeper, a reaction she never h had around Ayrton or Walter.
Her eyes darted around the room, looking anywhere but at the man standing behind her. She wasn’t even aware of when her phone ended up back in her hand
Practically guided by Stephen’s gentle grasp, she managed to type out a response: [Sure.]
Lucille felt the warmth of his touch lingering on her hand
Once she snapped out of her reverie, it hit her–was Stephen really jealous?
A wild thought crossed her mind–Could Stephen actually have feelings for her?!!
Lucille placed her hands against her flushed cheeks, struggling to accept the idea!
She reminded herself that they had only been together for a few days; feelings couldn’t develop that quickly, could they?
The
were married now, so a little jealousy was only to be expected.
To clear her mind, Lucille focused on her fitting, noting any necessary alterations before diving back into her work.
Stephen watched her with a quiet admiration, saying nothing as he subtly adjusted the lighting to cast the perfect glow, then quietly slipped away
