Chapter 3
Lucy stared coldly at him. “Mr. Green, don’t call me by the wrong name. My surname is May.”
After she was abducted, she met her master, who gave her the surname May.
“And why shouldn’t I hate you?”
Lucy continued. “You took me out, lost me, almost got me trafficked to the Triangle Area to have my organs sold, nearly leading to a tragic death. Should I be thanking you for that?”
Because he lost her, Ashley always felt guilty and took extra care of her after she returned, more so than anyone else.
But whenever she had a conflict with Gracie, he was the first to side with Gracie.
Such a wound cut even deeper.
Her words left Ashley speechless.
He didn’t know that she had almost been trafficked, nearly had her organs sold…
Lucy turned back, her gaze sweeping across everyone in the Green family as she coldly said, “I’ll say this one last time: I am cutting ties with the Green family. You are nothing more than strangers to me. I have neither the interest nor the time to threaten you into compromising.
“From this point on, we have nothing to do with each other.”
Her words were firm, not the slightest hint of a joke.
Her second brother, Michal, said, “Do you think you’ll have a good life after leaving the Green family? Do you still want the company’s resources?!”
Her eldest brother, Chris, also spoke with a grim face, “If you continue to make trouble, the Green family will use all our connections to blacklist you.”
Chris and Michal didn’t really intend to destroy Lucy’s career.
After all, she was their little sister. Though she was immature, they didn’t want to ruin her future.
They just wanted to control her lifeline, so she would stop causing trouble and live a peaceful life.
Through threats and incentives, they hoped she would eventually learn to behave.
But Lucy, upon hearing this threat, burst out laughing.
“Did you give me any good resources over the past year?” Lucy sneered. “I joined the Green family’s company, and the resources I received were less than what I got at my previous small company, which was infamous for exploiting its artists.
“It’s bad enough that you gave me so few resources, but you even took the ones I found myself and gave them to Gracie! When I was slandered online, you never did any PR for me, letting my reputation rot without lifting a finger!
“And now, you have the nerve to use this to threaten me? You two still have any sense of shame?”
The brothers’ faces darkened simultaneously.
Lucy continued. “Fortunately, I was cautious when I joined your company. You said that since we’re family, I didn’t need to sign a contract, so I didn’t insist. Now, even if I walk away, I won’t owe you any breach of contract fees.
“You shameless, blind, and biased fools, I won’t serve you any longer. It’s convenient that you never announced my identity, so this makes things even easier!
“As far as I’m concerned, this is the end!”
After saying this, Lucy grabbed her suitcase and walked out of the Green family’s door without looking back.
Outside, she took out her phone from her bag and pressed the pause button on her recording.
Her resolute departure left the Green family both angry and bitter.
“She actually left…” Master Green frowned and said.
Although Lucy’s outburst displeased him, it made him realize that he had been too focused on work and had indeed neglected the daughter he had only recently found.
Mrs. Green, full of anger, said, “She’s really something! Leaving just like that, does she even have us in her eyes?”
Michal fumed. “Let’s see how she’ll survive after leaving the Green family!”
To compete with Gracie for favor, she had caused such a ruckus. She was too willful.
Chris, with a grim face, said, “I’ll inform people in the entertainment industry so that no one will sign her in the future.”
To deal with a rebellious sister, he would make sure she understood that being willful would only lead to losing everything.
Gracie, though inwardly ecstatic, pretended to be guilty and said, “Michal, please don’t be angry. Don’t hold it against her. I’ll try to coax her, apologize, and maybe she’ll come back…”
“She needs to learn a lesson for being so willful,” Chris said in a deep voice.
“Exactly, if she had even half of Gracie’s sensibility, we wouldn’t be so frustrated,” Michal added.
The other Green brothers chimed in. “She’s too greedy and unsatisfied, which is why she keeps competing with you for attention. It’s good for her to face some hardships.”
“When she realizes her mistake, she’ll come back and apologize.”
Listening to his sons, Master Green didn’t voice any objections.
Perhaps letting Lucy suffer a bit would make her learn to appreciate and behave, no longer disturbing the family’s peace.
Lucy, after leaving the Green family, went straight to her small apartment.
This small apartment was a place she rented with her own money. She had lived here before being recognized by the Green family, and even after returning to them, it remained her refuge whenever she was upset.
After briefly tidying up the apartment, she lay on the bed and sighed comfortably.
Her phone chimed with a message from a friend in the industry.
“Lucy, did you offend someone? Green Entertainment just announced that they’ve terminated your contract and contacted other agencies to blacklist you. What do you plan to do?”
Green Entertainment was one of the top three entertainment companies in the country. If they took action, other agencies in the industry would likely give them some face and not sign her.
Lucy wasn’t at all surprised by Chris and Michal’s actions.
They were trying to force her to submit and return by blacklisting her.
But she wasn’t going to play along.
Lucy remained calm and replied to the message, [No worries, I’ve got it covered.]
Then, she got up, opened her computer, and searched for how to register an artist studio.
In her previous life, after being repeatedly hurt by the Green family, she had planned to leave their company and make her own way.
But unfortunately, she was kidnapped and killed before she could take that step.
Now that she had been reborn, she would set up her own artist studio.
Not only could she handle her own work, but she could also sign other artists and help them grow. As her artists gained popularity, she could also earn the audience’s favor, which would extend her life.
After finding the information she needed, she called a lawyer she knew to consult with them.
In about a week, she could establish and register her artist studio.
She hadn’t yet decided on the location for her studio, so she planned to arrange it after finishing the variety show recording and then recruit people later.
Thinking about the variety show, she contacted the director of the show.
The director assured her that her spot was secure and no one could take it.
Lucy smiled and thanked him, finally feeling at ease.
Just then, her phone rang again.
Seeing the caller ID, her expression momentarily faltered.
Then, her eyes grew cold.
The caller was Cohen Bailey, someone she didn’t even want to think about.
Cohen was a rising star in the entertainment industry and Lucy’s childhood sweetheart.
After being rescued from the traffickers, Lucy was adopted by her master, who had a close relationship with Master Bailey next door. Cohen was Master Bailey’s grandson, five years older than her.
At that time, she was still traumatized from the beatings she had endured and was too scared to leave the house.
It was Cohen who held her hand and guided her step by step into the light.
He had since become the light in her heart, dispelling the shadows from her life.
After that, she had always followed in his footsteps, clinging to him.
When he was taken back to the capital by his parents, she studied hard, skipped grades, and eventually got into a university in the capital. When he entered the entertainment industry, she followed suit after graduating.
After the Green family recognized her, she confessed her feelings to him, and he didn’t refuse.
She had always thought that they held a special place in each other’s hearts.
But she didn’t expect that in her previous life, when she was on the brink of death, he would betray her.
He, along with the Green family, chose to save Gracie under the traffickers’ threats—only then did she realize that the light in her life had always been an illusion!
Lucy answered the call, her tone cold. “What do you want?”
On the other end of the line, Cohen noticed that Lucy’s attitude seemed off, not as warm as usual but rather cold.
However, he didn’t mind and asked, “I heard from Michal that you still insist on appearing on that variety show?”
Cohen and Michal were classmates and had kept in touch, maintaining a good relationship.
“Is there a problem?” Lucy asked.
Cohen frowned slightly. “Didn’t I say that the show is live and not suitable for you?”
“Listen to me, just give up the spot!”
