Chapter 5
A few months later, Lydia’s due date came, and Landon was glued to her side, not leaving for a second.
On the day she went into labor, he stood anxiously outside the delivery room, pacing back and forth.
Giving birth was a dangerous journey for any woman, but there was nothing he could do. All he could do was wait outside, silently praying that both mother and child would make it through safely.
At the same time, another man shared in his anxiety, Gavin.
Landon’s irritation flared. This guy always seemed to show up at the most inconvenient moments.
Despite Lydia knew Gavin for years, Landon never took him seriously. After all, Lydia wasn’t the type of woman who only needed emotional support. Her beauty came with a hefty price tag that required constant attention.
Lydia was already successful in her own right. She admired strength, which was why Landon, despite secretly harboring feelings for her for years, never confessed. It wasn’t until he made a name for himself that he finally revealed his feelings.
Even though she and Gavin were close, Landon was confident that she would never fall for someone like him, a man who only

knew how to charm women with sweet words.

So, Landon let Gavin show up every now and then to get on his
nerves.
An hour later, the delivery room door finally opened, and a nurse stepped out, holding their baby boy.
Landon wasn’t as excited as most would expect. He and Lydia had already found out the baby’s gender during a private ultrasound, so when the nurse said it was a boy, he just nodded.
But Gavin couldn’t hold back his tears. His face lit up with pure joy, as if it was his own child.
When Lydia was wheeled out, Landon stood on one side of the bed, while Gavin stood on the other.
Landon didn’t feel the need to argue with a man of Gavin’s status, but what bothered him was the first person Lydia looked at when she came out. It was Gavin.
His face darkened. But at least Gavin didn’t follow them into the room, so Landon’s mood eased a little.
Unable to bite his tongue any longer, Landon muttered, “Look at him, acting like he’s the father. I’m standing right here!”
Lydia’s face flushed with discomfort, but she quickly shot back, “What are you talking about? He’s my best friend! We’ve known each other since we were kids. He’s just happy for me!”

Landon didn’t reply. Every time he voiced his displeasure, she used the same tired excuse to shut him down.
And if he said anything more, she’d probably start bringing up Mira.
Thinking of Mira, a wave of frustration washed over him.
It had been so long since she last contacted him.
Doesn’t she care at all? Is she really just going to disappear from my life?
He got lost in thoughts of Mira until Lydia’s voice brought him back to reality.
Her eyes were red, and her chest rose and fell with anger.
“Landon, who are you thinking about? Let me guess… Mira, right?”
