Chapter 8
I had just stepped out of the lab when a male classmate from my group suddenly blocked my way.
“Mira, why are you being so cold to me? You won’t even give me a chance?”
A small crowd of classmates gathered around, clearly interested
in the scene.
Sighing, I stopped and looked him straight in the
eye.
“I’ve told you before. I’m not dealing with relationships right now. I’m focusing on my studies, not romance.”
He had been chasing me for a long time now. No matter how many times I rejected him, he wouldn’t give up.
Not willing to accept my refusal, he insisted on inviting me to a gathering he was organizing.
This wasn’t the first time he’d asked, and just as I was about to turn him down again, a tall figure suddenly appeared in front of me, blocking my path.
“Hey, are you not getting it? She’s already said no. Why keep pushing her?”
I didn’t even need to look closely to know it was Landon.

I rushed to break it up. If this escalated into a fight and the cops showed up, I’d be dragged into it too.
With all my strength, I managed to pull Landon away, shouting, “Stop it! Landon, can you please not cause trouble for me? Didn’t I make myself clear?
“I’m rejecting you, it’s pretty obvious. Why won’t you get that?
“Besides, this is between him and me. What gives you the right to start throwing punches?”
Landon looked like he’d run out of steam, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
He turned to me with a hurt look in his eyes. “Because I love you! Isn’t that enough?”
His response was so ridiculous that I couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief. Not wanting the crowd to make this any worse, I quickly pulled him away.
Once we reached the corner of the building, I finally stopped.
Only then did I realize his eyes were red, like he’d been holding

And in the short time since I’d last seen him, he looked exhausted, almost unrecognizable.

As soon as he saw me staring at him, tears welled up and started to fall.
He reached for my hand, gripping it tightly, refusing to let go no matter how much I tried to pull away.
“Mira, I’ve finally found you.” His voice cracked. “I don’t want to let go. I know you’re still mad at me, but I swear I won’t mess up again!
“For years, I thought I loved Lydia. I thought she was different, not like those other fake, flashy women. But I had no idea. She’s been pretending the whole time. She fooled me, used my feelings and my money! And the baby she’s carrying? It’s not even mine!
“She never loved me. She just wanted my money! I was so blind, thinking she actually cared about me!
“I had no idea this was all part of her plan. She needed me to support her, her boyfriend, and her kid. She totally betrayed me.”
I was shocked. I hadn’t expected Lydia to be so fake.
As I thought back to everything that happened in my past life, I couldn’t help but feel a small sense of satisfaction. It was poetic justice.
