“Lily, today is our engagement party. You
can’t come over here and not drink to it.
Let’s drink and be friends again.”
She was trying to help me, but she made me
seem like a side piece.
I stood up to leave.
Jake grabbed me.
“You’re drinking that wedding toast, whether
you want to or not! You don’t have a choice!”
Ashley walked over, filling my glass.
I gently pushed her away.
I didn’t use much force, but Ashley fell to the
ground.
The wine covered her.
Jake was out of patience, his face cold.
“Lily, are you serious?”
Ashley, looking like she was about to cry,
pretended to be innocent.
“Don’t blame Lily. It was an accident.”
<
“Accident? I think she came here to ruin it!”
Jake looked around and said coldly:
“Hold her down. I don’t believe she can’t
drink it!”
I tried to run, but people grabbed my arms
and legs.
The glass got closer.
“Stop! My husband is upstairs, he’ll be down
in a second! This is our hotel, he won’t let you
get away with this!”
Everyone’s face changed.
“Guo family? Is she the young master’s
mistress? But wait, I heard Guo was married
five years ago, and his child is three years
old, but his wife is protected.”
“Give it a rest, as if she can be connected
with Guo family, she’s just a hair. If she’s
Guo’s wife, I’m Guo’s dad!”
“Who knows whose bastard she is pregnant
with, whatever, I’m sure she wouldn’t show
her face!”
Jake’s face turned furious.
He grabbed my throat.
“Your husband? Lily, you’re lying now!
Everyone knows this is a Guo family business!
What does it have to do with you?”
“You’re just trying to make me feel bad. Why
would you joke about being pregnant?”
“If you really don’t have feelings for me, why
are you here?”
“Apologize now and agree to my terms, and I
won’t touch you.”
I spit in his face.
“Jake, don’t think I’m as awful as you! I
wouldn’t want to be with you if you paid me,
your a disgusting person!”
Jake was furious.
He pinched my chin, forcing my mouth open.
He poured the entire bottle of wine down my
throat.
The spice was all over my nerves.
I started coughing.
Jake was about to drag me away when Ashley
said:
“Jake, didn’t you say Mr. Guo was upstairs?
Let’s talk to him about the project, don’t go.”
Everyone’s eyes lit up.
“Jake can work with the Guo family? You
were always the smart one, you’re so
amazing. Is your company hiring? How about
me?”
“If Jake knows Mr. Guo, we can’t compete
with him! Can you introduce us sometime?”
“I’m not asking for much, I just want a picture
for my company!”
Jake didn’t answer.
He kept looking at me.
I was pale, and he looked sorry for me.
“I’m asking one last time: do you want to be
with me?”
“I can forget what happened before. But you
can only be with me after.”
I pulled a smile, standing up.
“Dream on!”
I turned to leave.
Ashley suddenly screamed:
“Mr. Guo! Mr. Guo’s here!”
Jake looked at me.
“See? I’m not the same person I was eight
years ago. I can even work with the Guo family. You can still change your mind.”
Everyone rushed over, ignoring me.
Ashley started fixing her hair and makeup.
Everyone grabbed their business cards.
Mr. Guo didn’t pay attention to anyone.
He looked around the lobby.
<
He walked to me.
The alcohol was making me dizzy.
I went to meet him when I collapsed.
Mr. Guo ran to me, his face pale.
“Wife? What are you doing here? What
happened?”
Chapter 2
That one word, “wife,” killed all the
excitement in the room. It was like someone
flipped a switch.
Jake was standing there, looking like he’d
seen a ghost.
“What did Mr. Guo just call Lily? Did I hear
<
that right? Is Lily really Guo’s mistress? And
that pregnancy thing…”
“You heard right. But she’s not a mistress…
he called her his wife.”
“Oh crap. Mr. Guo’s been hiding his wife for
five years. If this gets out, we’re all screwed!”
That gossip reached Jake, and a deep, bitter
look crossed his face.
Guo ignored everyone, holding me tighter.
He started gently shaking me.
“Lily? Lily, are you okay? What hurts? You
smell like booze.”
“You said you were going to an engagement
party. How did this happen?”
Ashley didn’t think I was actually married to
Guo.
She was pissed, but she forced a smile.
“Mr. Guo, you’ve got it all wrong. It’s Jake
and my engagement party. Lily is just a
friend. She had a little too much to drink,
that’s all.”
“You know Jake, right? His company has
been trying to bid on one of Guo’s projects.
He even brought the proposal today. Maybe
you could take a look…”
Guo cut her off, his face turning cold.
“A little too much to drink? Do you think I’m
stupid?”
“My wife’s three months pregnant! If
something happens to that baby, you’ll pay!”
“Whatever this ‘Jake‘ crap is, I don’t know
him. Get out of my way, or I’ll lose it!”
Guo picked me up.
As he turned to leave, Jake stepped in front
of us.
He wouldn’t take his eyes off me.
He looked at me, confused.
“Lily… don’t I deserve an explanation? When
did you get married? Why didn’t I know
anything about this?”
I forced myself to look at him, pretending to
be confused.
“Explanation? My marriage is none of your
business. You’re being a little nosy, aren’t
you?”
