Chapter 7
The authorities inspected our injuries. Since I’d slapped Queenie a few times before the police arrived, our case was ruled as mutual combat and was later resolved through mediation. Queenie was also instructed to pay for damaging my personal belongings.
After exiting the police station, I drove off in my car without sparing Jacob another glance. Then, I went to get a new phone and headed straight home.
The more I thought about what had happened, the angrier I got. When Jacob and I first got into a relationship, we had a career clash. Because of this, he’d willingly quit his job and stayed home to take care of our daily affairs.
Since I felt bad that he’d sacrificed his career, I had always been extra patient with him. I was also very supportive when he said he wanted to pick up pool as a hobby. But I never thought he’d end up like this.
Just then, my thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing. It was a call from
my
best friend.
“Hey, babe. What’s up?” I asked.
“Haven’t you been online, Sarah? I came across a trending video. The girl in the video looks exactly like you,” she said.
I clicked on the video she forwarded me and realized it was a video that’d been filmed at the pool hall. The video was heavily edited and only contained footage of Queenie apologizing to me on her knees.
The video was shot in an angle that painted me in a horrible light. It made me look like a bully while portraying Queenie as the victim.
After watching the doctored footage, netizens began to berate me online.
“What a wretched woman. How could she just hit someone like that?”
“She looks like a homewrecker to me. I’ve never seen a homewrecker act so obnoxiously before.”
“Assistants are human too. They don’t deserve to be humiliated like that. The poor girl is already on her knees–what more does she want?”
“I can’t believe this. What’s wrong with people nowadays? Would it hurt to treat others with an ounce of respect?”
I was speechless.
The netizens only focused on what they wanted to see. None of them seemed to care about why I was slumped on the floor with a bruised and swollen face. I was furious.
Not even the police could stop these girls from committing heinous acts. I was certain that the redhead had taken this video.
“Are you out of your mind, Sarah Anderson?” Jacob barged into the room with a face full of rage.
