While they were arguing, Lhanded over all the proof 1 gathered.
Soon, Brianna was convicted of arson and sentenced to five years. But since she was pregnant, her sentence wouldn’t start until her baby turned one year old.
Meanwhile, Caleb was fired for serious negligence that nearly got someone killed and was banned from his field.
Brianna tried to use her pregnancy to force him into marrying her, but he refused. He even made her get an abortion. That baby was her last hope, and when nether Caleb nor Phyllis gave in, she nearly lost it.
She showed up at the Holt family’s shop every day, making a scene about how Caleb got her pregnant and refused to take responsibility.
The security didn’t want to hurt a pregnant woman, so they just let her have her meltdown. Soon, everyone learned how Caleb had ditched me to protect the other woman, and business at the Holts‘ shop plummeted.
Before long, Brianna must’ve bumped into something during one of her outbursts and ended up losing the baby. She’d lost her last chance.
Not only did she fail to get Caleb to marry her, but with the pregnancy ending early, her sentence got moved up, and she’d have to serve it sooner than expected.
Phyllis looked like she aged a decade in a single day, and Caleb seemed like he was falling apart, too. I heard through the grapevine that he kept asking about me.
Our mutual friends would drop little hints, checking in to see how I was doing and if I’d ever think about getting back with him.
I couldn’t help but smile. Yeah, that was never going to happen.
After leaving Caleb, I didn’t have to worry about him and Brianna getting too close anymore. I could finally focus on myself, and everything started falling into place.
I ran my own small business, which kept me busy, but I felt fulfilled rather than drained.
There was no turning back to the life I had before, and I never wanted to cross paths with someone like Caleb again. That miserable chapter was closed for good.
I couldn’t say what lay ahead for them, but I had a feeling my future was looking pretty bright.
