Chapter 27
Grace had heard too many, many promises called “forever” before.
No one could guarantee forever, neither Alden, Drake, Bryce nor her.
What she could do was to try to love each other when there was no estrangement between them.
Antonio may have known her worries, as he simply held her hand and placed it over his heart.
“Don’t worry, the Kaufman family had a very strict upbringing. By the time you realized I had changed my mind, I might have already been beaten to death by the Kaufman family elders.”
“The Kaufman family despised people who were indecisive, unless their partner’s behavior was truly outrageous, they would never change their mind.”
His voice caused the chest to tremble, but the steady heartbeat was particularly clear, enough to prove that what he said was all true.
Grace was stunned. It was hard to imagine that in this era, there would still be families with such strict upbringing.
At that moment, she inexplicably thought of the hasty start of their marriage.
She waited at the City Hall from night until dawn, and from dawn until almost sunset.

My eagerly anticipated 22nd birthday ended in such a lonely way.
The idea of getting married, however, was an act of defiance on her part.
However, it was Antonio who took the first step towards her, draping his coat over her and revealing a barely noticeable hint of tension on his usually carefree face, though his voice remained cold and indifferent.
“I have been observing you for a while just now, and I dare to ask, are you in a hurry to get married? Can you consider me?”
The face with sword–like eyebrows and starry eyes suddenly appeared in front, lighting up Grace’s gloomy sky.
She also didn’t know where the courage came from, but she nodded at him.
“Yes, let’s get married!”
Finally, she impulsively took Antonio’s hand and walked into the City Hall, just before the staff finished work, and obtained the marriage certificate.
That day was like a vague and ethereal dream, even today, Grace still cannot believe that it was real.
She asked in a dazed manner, “Antonio, if that day… it wasn’t me, would you still have married someone casually?”
“No, I won’t.” He answered without a hint of hesitation, his eyes and brows concealing deep affection.
That day, I had already said that I had been observing you for a long time. I was waiting for you, waiting for you to choose
me for marriage.
Upon hearing this, Grace was completely stunned and momentarily forgot what to say.

It seemed as if only their breathing and heartbeat remained in their ears, and they couldn’t hear anything else.
Antonio was also not in a hurry, he just looked at her gently
and accommodatingly, not wanting to miss any of her reactions.
After a long time, she finally found her voice again.
“But… you know, I had no choice but to choose you that day…”
She stuttered and stumbled, her voice sounding a bit hoarse.
“It doesn’t matter, as long as you chose me in the end, that’s enough.”
Antonio held Grace tightly in his arms, feeling her warmth and heartbeat. As long as she was by his side, it was enough.
In the corner where she couldn’t see, his eyes were filled with paranoid satisfaction.
Fortunately, he did get her in the end.
Grace didn’t believe in love at first sight, nor did she believe that Antonio could be someone who fell in love at first sight.
She persistently wanted an answer, “Antonio, why did you wait for me to choose you? Love at first sight? I don’t believe it.”

Antonio sighed and slowly released her, then he embraced her and walked into the study. He pressed a button and opened a hidden room.
There were many photos of Grace hanging inside, most of which were taken casually.
These photos were taken by chance in various places such as street corners, tree–lined roads, and award podiums, among others.
