Chapter 11
The message went through successfully, but it was like tossing a pebble into the ocean–no response.
The message read: [I’m planning to sell the apartment. What should I do with your clothes?]}
Maybe he forgot that Isabella had left him a note, telling him to handle everything as he pleased.”
Or maybe he just wanted an excuse to text her.”
Perhaps Dorian thought this was him offering Isabella an olive branch. If she was smart, she’d know how to take it.
He might seem like a tough nut, but he was actually easy to appease.”
But Isabella never replied.
Naturally, the apartment remained unsold.
Her clothes and all her other belongings were still there, as if she’d never left.”
Dorian would often find himself there in the dead of night after a night out. He’d lie on Isabella’s bed, staring at the ceiling until the first light of dawn.
Three months after Isabella had left, nothing had changed.}}
The clock was ticking its way towards midnight. Dorian dialed Isabella’s number.
Isabella was a sweet, conservative girl.
Her family wasn’t wealthy, but she never wanted for anything, and her parents adored her.”
Because she was so pretty, they’d always kept a close eye on her.”
It wasn’t until the fall after she graduated college that she moved in with him.”
He still remembered that night. She was trembling all over with nerves. Her skin was flushed with a warm, rosy hue. She was breathtakingly beautiful, fragile as glass beneath him. When it was all over, she cried hard.
She kept saying, “Dorian, you better promise me you won’t ever mess with me again“}
“You have to be good to me, you have to marry me.“}]
“Dorian, we’ll be together forever, right?“}
But that innocent girl, who thought she’d be with him forever, was lost to him now.”
So lost, he could hardly recall her face the last time they broke up.
Was she smiling as she nodded, or were her eyes red with tears?!
The phone rang for what felt like an eternity. Just when he thought she wouldn’t answer-
The line connected.}
In that moment, he wanted to say, Bella, come back.}

But what came out instead was, “Isabella, stop messing around and come back.“}
His foolish, laughable words were interrupted by the sound of a man’s soft chuckle.
That laugh was like a sheet of ice falling over him, freezing him in place.}
“Mr. Everhart, if you wait too long to woo a girl, someone else might sweep her off her feet.”
“Lucian?”
Dorian’s eyes burned with fury as he spat out the name.}}
“Yeah, it’s me, Lucian.”
“Where’s Isabella? Let me talk to her!”
Dorian’s eyes seemed to blaze red with anger, his grip on the phone so tight his voice trembled, “Lucian, if you dare take advantage of
her
“She can’t come to the phone.“}
Lucian looked down, gently kissing his girl.”
Isabella’s eyelashes were still wet with a tear, her mouth forming a little pout.
Though her eyes were closed, her face was all about hurt and grievance.}}
‘His heart melted, and he kissed her eyelashes, taking away that tear.”

“She’s out cold, mad at me. I need to kiss her awake first.“W
“Lucian!” Dorian’s voice cut off abruptly.
