Chapter 4
The crowd fell silent, realizing what had happened. Marlaux’s unnecessary outburst earned him a red card, and he was swiftly sent off the field. Disappointed boos echoed from the audience while Tiara rushed to his side, nearly in tears.
“Marlaux, what are you doing?” she cried, grabbing his arm.
He coldly shrugged her off, not even sparing her a glance as he stormed off the field. Tiara stood there, helpless, her face shifting from anger to embarrassment.”
After the game, Kelvis walked me back to my dorm that evening.”
“Get some rest,” he said with a smile.
The cool night breeze brushed against my skin, and I found myself hesitating before asking the question that had been bothering me.”
“Kelvis… why are you so kind to me? Or rather… why do you treat me so well?” I asked quietly.
He seemed a little taken aback, then laughed softly. “What do you mean? I haven’t done anything special.”
“But you’re so popular,” I continued, feeling more unsure. “There are tons of girls who like you. Why do you-“W
Why do you only hang out with me? Is it because of that night? I couldn’t help but wonder if there was something more to his kindness.
Seeing uncertainty in my eyes, Kelvis grew serious.
“Lashana, you’re talented and amazing. You deserve all the good things this world has to offer.” He gave a soft smile before adding, “I don’t know if Marlaux has been filling your head with nonsense again, but if he has, you should be glad to have gotten rid of someone like him.“}
With a light chuckle, he continued, “And don’t go thinking I’m some incredible person–I’m just a guy, a student like you. You’ve set me way too high on that pedestal.“W
“Lashana, you’re talented and adorable. You deserve good things in life. Don’t let Marlaux or anyone else make you feel like you’re less than that.“”
“And I’m really not some great person–just a regular student. You’ve put me on way too high of a pedestal.“}
His words surprised me. No one had ever said anything like that to me before. Coming from a modest family, I was always reminded of my background.”
I’d met Marlaux through a scholarship, and I’d grown used to people telling me how lucky I was to be in his circle, always reminding me of the ‘difference‘ between us.”
Marlaux had often treated me like I was beneath him, bossing me around and belittling me. Somewhere along the way, I started believing that was all I deserved.”
Being humble and obedient was how I’d been raised from a young age. So, I really did treat Marlaux like a god. But what if he never deserved that kind of devotion?”
My thoughts were tangled, emotions swirling in confusion.”
“Be confident, Lashana, Kelvis said softly. “Your presence is precious, especially to those who truly care about you.”
In the distance, Marlaux and his group of friends walked by, laughing loudly as they joked around. One of his friends noticed me standing with Kelvis and nudged Marlaux.”
“Hey, isn’t that Lashana? What’s she doing with Kelvis?“”
Another chimed in, “Are they really together now?”
“Yeah, they kissed at the game earlier,” someone else added, lowering their voice.M
Marlaux’s expression darkened instantly. He clenched his jaw, trying to act indifferent, but I could see the anger simmering beneath the surface.
“Who would’ve thought?” He muttered under his breath, his voice dripping with contempt. “She acts all sweet and innocent, but deep down, she’s really just that kind of girl.”
He sneered, “A slut who’ll sleep with anyone.“”
The next day, I didn’t expect to see Marlaux again, especially after all that had happened. But this time, he reached out to me.N
I was rushing to my next class when he suddenly stopped me, claiming that I had left something important at his place and insisting that I come to get it.”
“What is it?” I asked, a bit sceptical.
We hadn’t spoken in days, and I wasn’t eager to change that. Without another word, Marlaux pulled out the jade bracelet he had given me a while back and held it out toward me.”
I frowned, feeling confused. “I already gave this back to you.”!!
He raised his chin, his voice taking on that familiar, arrogant tone. “Once I give something, I don’t take it back. People would
think Marlaux couldn’t let go of a cheap bracelet. and I’d be a laughingstock.“}

“Lashana, why did you kiss Kelvis at the game?“N
His question caught me off guard. I didn’t understand why he was so fixated at that moment.
“You were there,” I said, trying to stay calm. “The big screen caught us, and if it’s a guy and a girl, you have to kiss. It’s a tradition.”
“Some people have refused before,” he shot back, his voice growing louder. “You could’ve refused too, but you didn’t. Why?” I could see the frustration building in him, but I didn’t think it was necessary. “It was just part of the game,” I said. “It didn’t mean anything.”
Marlaux’s eyes narrowed. “You know I don’t get along with Kelvis, yet you still did that. What do you think that makes me feel?”
Before I could answer, he smirked and leaned in slightly. “Oh, I get it. Another one of your little games. Lashana, you can’t seriously think you made me jealous, right?”
I could feel my patience wearing thin. “Marlaux,” I said calmly, “what position or role do you think you have to question me like this?”
For a moment, he was speechless. I could see him swallow hard, trying to come up with a response. But soon, his arrogance returned.
“Lashana, you pretend to be this sweet, obedient girl, but deep down, you’re just a fickle woman.“”
His words stung, but I kept my composure. “I thought you really liked me,” he continued. “But your love is cheap. I’m so disappointed in you.“}
At that moment, Kelvis‘ words from the other night echoed in my mind, and a surge of anger welled up inside me.”
“If I recall correctly,” I said, my voice steady, “you’re the one who brags about having eight girlfriends a year.“}
“Marlaux, who’s the cheap one here?“\
I looked at him straight in the eye. “I don’t believe in reformed playboys, and you are the last person who has the right to call me fickle.”
Marlaux stood there, stunned. He didn’t speak for a long time, just staring at me like he didn’t recognize the person standing in front of him. Finally, he found his voice again.”
“Lashana… You’ve never talked to me like this before.“}
When I didn’t respond, he seemed flustered. Desperate to regain control, he suddenly smirked. “Tiara’s been saying she’s running out of clothes to wear. I’m planning to buy her a whole new wardrobe so she can wear something different every day.” His words were meant to hurt, but they only bored me. I turned to leave, not interested in playing into his drama, but before I could walk away, he grabbed my hand.”
“You really think Kelvis likes you?” he asked, his voice dripping with bitterness. “Wake up. He’s only doing this to spite me. There’s no way he’d actually like you.”
I turned back to face him, my expression calm. Without saying a word, I took the jade bracelet from his hand. For a brief moment, a triumphant smirk crept across his face. He thought he had won.
“You talk tough,” he sneered, “but your actions speak volumes.“}
He opened his mouth to say more, but before he could, I raised both hands and smashed the bracelet onto the ground. The jade shattered instantly, the pieces scattered across the pavement.
Marlaux’s smirk vanished, replaced by shock. He stared at the fragments in disbelief, his face growing pale as he struggled to find words. “Lashana, you-“0
For a moment, I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. A thought crossed my mind, one I hadn’t really considered before. I looked at him and asked, “Marlaux, do you like me?”
His eyes flickered, and after a long pause, he scoffed. “Lashana, if you think that, you need help.“}
I nodded, not surprised by his response. As I stepped over the shattered jade and began to walk away, I added one last thing.” “Oh, and by the way,! hope you and Tiara last forever.”
I didn’t need to explain further. He knew exactly what I meant.”
