Chapter 24
Gwyneth’s heart twisted with jealousy, but she didn’t let it show. Instead, the sighed softly.
“Colin, I’m sorry. I really can’t control my emotions. In the end, it’s all my fault. If I had loved you a little less, maybe Ms. Nicholls wouldn’t be acting this way.”
“Don’t say such nonsense.” Colin’s gaze softened as he looked at the woman in his arms with concern.
Yet even as he held her, he couldn’t ignore the faint sense of impatience creeping into his chest. He didn’t know where it came from or who it was directed at, so he could only suppress it for now,
Taking out his phone, he called one of his assistants, Wyatt Davison.
“Find out where Sophie is.”
“Yes, sir.”
Gwyneth’s expression darkened slightly. Sophie was already dead, but it was clear that Colin still refused to believe it. It seemed she needed to make him accept the truth as soon as possible.
As long as that little nuisance was out of the picture, there would be no remaining ties between Colin and Aspen. And once that happened, Gwyneth could finally take her rightful place as his wife.
However, Aspen was becoming far too arrogant. Gwyneth decided it was time to teach her a lesson.
Aspen had planned to leave, but circumstances forced her to reschedule her flight. Exhausted, she dragged herself back to her small apartment–only to find an unwelcome guest inside.
“Joseph, what are you doing here?” Her grip tightened around her keys, and her expression was dark and cold.
Joseph’s face shifted slightly when he saw her, irritation flashing across his features. “I’m your uncle, you ungrateful brat. Just because your parents died early doesn’t mean they didn’t teach you basic respect, right?”
“There’s no connection between us anymore,” Aspen retorted without holding back this time. “You have no right to be here.”
Joseph had never expected this. The niece who had once obeyed him without question was now talking back to him.
His face darkened, and his displeasure was evident in his voice. “I’m your uncle. We share the same blood. How could we have no connection?”
With that, he pulled out a check for ten million dollars and threw it onto the table. “This check you gave me is completely useless!”
“What?” Aspen’s eyes locked onto the check, her face turning even colder. She hadn’t expected Colin to be this vile.
He had even canceled the check–the settlement for their divorce. He truly was trash to the core.
“I didn’t know about this. But don’t worry. I promised you the money, and I’ll make sure you get it.”
“I don’t have time to wait. I need the money now, so I’m selling this apartment.”
Joseph was already drowning in debt, and if he didn’t come up with the money soon, he would literally lose a limb
or worse.
Aspen knew exactly what kind of trouble Joseph had gotten himself into.
Her expression grew even colder as she said, “This apartment was left to me by my parents. You have no right to

sell it.”
“I have every right! If I don’t get the money, I’m dead! I’m your only uncle. Are you really going to stand by and watch me die?”
Joseph grew anxious, and he shot up from his seat. His finger jabbed dangerously close to Aspen’s face.
Aspen clenched her teeth, fury boiling inside her. Her gaze dropped momentarily, and that was when she noticed the diamond ring still on her finger.
It was the wedding ring Colin had given her.
It was something he had casually handed her, saying that as his wife, she couldn’t afford to embarrass the Fullers in public.
