The jab landed hard, forcing Nathaniel, who was usually unshaken even in the face of calamity, to draw in a sharp breath.
Rosalie’s mood instantly lifted.
Gripping the insulated container of medicine, she said flatly, “I’m not attending the family dinner. Find your own excuse. And by the way, sign the divorce papers when you have the time. I’ll have someone pick them up. If you’re too busy and forget, Til tust tile for divorce in cour
If Nathaniel wanted to save face, she’d gladly play along
Nathaniel pressed a hand to his side, his tone dangerously low. “Rosalie!”
After so many years together, Rosalie knew him inside out.
In the past, whenever Nathaniel used this tone, she’d immediately back down.
But not anymore. She wasn’t going to wait around for a man who didn’t love her.
Loyalty miraculous change, redemption? That is for fools.
Rosalie said. “Nathaniel, this marriage is over. I’m divorcing you”
With that she turned and walked toward her car, hidden in the shadows.
Her thin frame disappeared from sight, leaving Nathaniel strangely unsettled.
This time, Rosalie’s determination felt real. It made him wonder if she truly intended to divorce him.
She had gone to great lengths to win Eldon’s favor and have him pressure Nathaniel into marriage.
She’d thrown fits before, but out of respect for Eldon, Nathaniel had always indulged her.
This, however, was pushing it.
Nathaniel’s gaze simmered with impending fury as he took out his phone and said, “Damian, list Apricotshade Manor for
sale”
He’d wait for her to crawl back and admit she was wrong.
Rosalie waited at home for three days, but the signed divorce papers n
papers never came.
Instead, she came across the news that Apricotshade Manor had been put up for sale.
Her teeth clenched in fury. Damn him, that scumbag Nathaniel.
After all these years, he still refuses to even give me the 36–million–dollar severance pay? Is he really this petty!
She called him more than ten times, but no one answered.
On the final attempt, a woman picked up.
Rosalie instantly recognized the voice–Leonor.
A flicker of disdain crossed her eyes. His devotion was almost laughable. Even at this hour, they are still playing their little love games.
Roulic had no patience for polite exchanges. She got straight to the point. “Put Nathaniel on the phone.”
It wasn’t long before Nathaniel’s cold voice came through. “Yes”

She’d once called him that too, just once. He had immediately scowled, saying he didn’t like it and told her never to call him
After that, she’d been careful not to overstep.
So, it’s her special nickname for him?
Rosalie sat frozen on the couch, staring blankly ahead. When she turned her head, she found Candice watching her with a faintly exasperated look.
Rosalie forced a smile, but it looked worse than crying.
Looks like the divorce is on hold for now”
Candice frowned. “Stop smiling like that. It’s awful. Just give me a moment, and I’ll find someone to get rid of him
Rosalie pressed her lips together, saying nothing
“You’ve already repaid Eldon’s kindness by enduring years of marriage with Nathaniel. Why are you still debasing yourself like this? Let’s be real–you just can’t let go.”
Candice’s blunt words pierced straight through Rosalic, sharp as a blade.
Bitterness surged within her, but she didn’t want to continue the conversation.
“I’ll start looking for an apartment tomorrow. Once I find one, I’ll move out.”
Even if the divorce wasn’t finalized, she was determined never to return to his home.
She had enough money saved to buy a small apartment, enough for one person.
Staying at Candice’s place had been awkward ever since overhearing that phone call. It was time to move on.
