Chapter 12 Apartment Hunting
Flashed
The moment Rosalie mentioned looking for an apartment, Candice’s head snapped up, her drama on the iPad forgotten.
Candice asked. “Why are you looking for an apartment?”
Rosalie said. “I can’t keep intruding on you and your boyfriend”
Candice froze, her earlier confidence dimining.
“Why do you care about him? You’re living here, I haven’t complained, so why should he have any objections?”
Rosalie smiled faintly. “You know I don’t like being a burden”
Candice sighed in defeat and stood up from the couch. Fine, do whatever you want.”
With that. Rosalie got to work.
Between her ongoing project with Topcrest and apartment hunting, she kept herself busy.
She also submitted her resignation to Grigow Airlines.
After all, she had joined Grigow Airlines for Nathaniel, and now that the thought of him–and certain others–made her sick, leaving the job didn’t feel like a loss.
The next day was the Drake family’s annual dinner. Rosalie woke up early.
For years, anything related to the Drakes or Nathaniel had demanded her utmost attention.
It had become such a habit that, even now, she found herself unable to sleep in.
A self–deprecating smile tugged at her lips. Bad habits need time to break.
She expected Nathaniel to send a driver, but to her surprise, he came himself.
And even more surprising, someone was sitting in
in the p
passenger seat Leonor.
Rosalie’s grip on the rear door handle tightened painfully.
Leonor turned around with a bright smile.
“Rosalie! It’s been ages. I just got back a few days ago. I’ve been asking Nathaniel to arrange for the three of us to meet up, but he kept saying you were busy. Luckily, I had errands nearby and got a ride with him to see you. You don’t mind, do you?”
Her words were polite, but the challenge in her eyes was clear.
Rosalie’s nails dug into her palm, her amber eyes flashing with instinctive disdain.
Still, she decided against going to the dinner. She had no interest in performing a cliché love triangle drama in front of the entire Drake family.
Rosalie responded coolly, “Not at all. Ive been busy”
“Your dress is in the bag.”
Nathaniel’s voice broke the tension, as detached as ever.
Over the years, he had rarely seen her socialize outside of work, and Rosalie had always kept things simple
With her fair complexion and flawless skin, she could pull off any outfit effortlessly, whether it was a casual dress or formal

Nathaniel said, “You’re not going to change in the car?”
Fished
Nathaniel’s job kept him busy, and he often picked her up last minute for events, so she’d gotten used to changing in the car.
But today was different.
Leonor was sitting in the front seat.
Rosalie’s voice was cold. Tll change in the restroom when we arrive”
Nathaniel’s gaze flicked to her outfit, the cheap fabric clearly beneath his standards. His tone was firm and commanding
“Change here.
The tension thickened. Before Rosalie could reply, Leonor turned around, her voice gentle. “Rosalie, are you feeling shy? I can step out if that makes it easier for you.”
Rosalie shot her a glance; her voice icy. I said, I’m not changing”
Nathaniel slammed on the brakes. “Rosalie!”
Her patience snapped. “Nathaniel, I’m not the kind of woman who changes clothes in front of her husband and his mistress. If you enjoy that sort of thing, find someone else to entertain you.”
With that, she opened the door and got out, walking briskly toward the Drake family estate.
Nathaniel sat frozen in the driver’s seat, his jaw clenched, clearly infuriated by her outburst.
The Rosalie he once knew would never have spoken to him like that.
What was the big deal? They are childhood friends, after all.
Leonor glanced at Nathaniel.
She said, “Rosalie’s probably just shy. It’s been years since we last saw each other. Don’t be angry. Oh, is today the family dinner? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have taken a ride with you.”
