Chapter 6
Cameron’s entire body tensed as the nurse’s words sank in.
Gone?:
Impossible.X
His fingers curled into tight fists as he glared at the trembling nurse before him. “What do you mean she’s gone?” he hissed, his voice dangerously low.
The nurse swallowed nervously. “S–Sir, when I went to check on Miss Zoe, she wasn’t in her bed. The room was empty” Cameron shook his head, refusing to believe it. Zoe had been weak, barely conscious–there was no way she had escaped on
her own.
He reached for his phone, his grip tightening around it as he barked, “Call the guards. Find her immediately. Search every hallway, every room, every exit. I don’t care what it takes, but do not let her escape!”
The guards scrambled to obey, fanning out across the hospital in a desperate search.
Cameron ran a hand through his disheveled hair, his mind racing. This was absurd Zoe could not have just disappeared) Meanwhile, Zoe’s head lolled against a warm chest as the darkness of unconsciousness began to lift. Her eyelids fluttered open, and for a moment, she didn’t recognize her surroundings. The sterile white of the hospital was gone, replaced by the soft glow of streetlights filtering through a car window.
“Stay with me, Zoe,” a familiar voice murmured, filled with urgency.
Her heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voice, “Brother?” she whispered weakly, her throat dry and scratchy.” “Yes, it’s me,” the man said, his tone gentle but firm. “You’re safe now!
Zoe’s vision cleared, and she looked up to see the worried face of her older brother, Ethan. Relief washed over her like a tidal wave, and tears filled her eyes.X
“You came for me,” she choked out.
Ethan’s jaw tightened, and his hands gripped the steering wheel of the car. “Of course I did. When I found out what that bastard was doing to you, I couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.””
Zoe’s tears spilled quer and she reached out to grip his arm weakly. “Thank you,” she whispered.k
Ethan glanced at her, his expression softening. “You don’t have to thank me. I’m just sorry I didn’t get to you sooner.
Zoe’s mind raced as fragments of the past few hours came back to her. Cameron’s cruel words, the doctor’s hesitation, the nurse’s panic–it all felt like a nightmare.
“I can’t go back,” she said, her voice trembling. “I can’t let him find me.“X
Ethan’s grip on the wheel tightened. “He won’t. I’ll make sure of it. You’re coming home with me, and I’ll protect you.”
Zoe closed her eyes, the weight of exhaustion pulling at her once again. But this time, she didn’t fight it. For the first time in what felt like forever, she felt safe.
Back at the hospital, the sound of heels clicking against the tiled floor drew his attention.
Nadine appeared in the hallway, her arms crossed as she surveyed the frantic chaos unfolding before her. Her perfectly styled hair and elegant dress were in stark contrast to the turmoil in Cameron’s expression.
“What’s going on?” she asked, her voice laced with irritation.
Cameron barely spared her a glance as he continued pacing. “Zoe’s missing. She escaped.”
A smirk tugged at the corner of Nadine’s lips. “Isn’t that a good thing?” she said smoothly. “She’s no longer a problem. Let her leave.
Her casual dismissal ignited something primal inside Cameron.
He turned on her, his eyes blazing. “That is not possible. His voice was sharp, clipped, every word laced with growing hysteria.!!
Nadine frowned at his intensity. “Why not? You didn’t want her anyway. You wanted her gone, didn’t you?”
Cameron’s jaw clenched. He didn’t want to explain. Didn’t want to admit the twisted reality that was gripping him like an iron chain
Zde was his.
And she would remain his until he decided otherwise.
The thought of her leaving–of her escaping his grasp–sent a cold, unfamiliar panic through his veins.”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “No, she wouldn’t leave me. She can’t leave me.” His voice rose in desperation. “She belongs to me. And she will stay with me until I say so!”
Nadine took a step back, startled by the raw emotion in his voice.

Before she could speak, the guards returned.
“Sir,” one of them said hesitantly. “We’ve checked the entire hospital. She’s not in the vicinity.”
Cameron’s breathing grew erratic. “Then check the CCTV footage.“”
The guards hesitated, glancing at one another.
Finally, one of them stepped forward, his face pale. “We already did, sir.” He swallowed hard. “She wasn’t seen on any of the
cameras.”
Cameron felt the floor tilt beneath him.
No footage?
That meant someone had helped her. Someone had taken Zoe right out from under his nose.
His blood ran cold. He had expected her to fight him. To cry, to scream, to beg. But this? This was an outcome he hadn’t prepared for.
He had always thought of Zoe as fragile, as someone who could never truly escape him. She had nowhere to go. No family. no allies.
Yet she was gone. And suddenly, the thought of never seeing her again sent a foreign, suffocating dread into his chest.
He had told himself he didn’t love her. That she was nothing more than a shadow of the past, a weak replacement for the woman woman he had truly lost.E
But now, standing in the hospital corridor with the realization that Zoe had slipped away from him completely, something Inside him shattered.
For the first time in his life, Cameron didn’t know what to do.
