Chapter 24
When Phoebe sa that the other plece was abo what she was looking for, she realized both clothes had been washed.
Usually, once clothes were soaked, they would lose that brand–new look, and the salesperson would definitely notice. How could she possibly go to the store to exchange them now?
She felt like caring but couldn’t take it out on Evelyn, so she swallowed her frustration.
Evelyn, however, didn’t think it was a big deal. “The clothes are perfectly line, Phoebe. You shouldn’t exchange them. I’ve washed them for you, and you can wear them once they dry! “Look at the fabric; it’s really nice! The style is classic, too. You could wear them for five or ten years without them going out of style!”
Fliebe was speechless
Thinking of the new clothes Natalio bought last night–pink and trendy blouses–while she would still have to wear her old, drab outfits, Phoebe made up her mind. She decided to fish the clothes out of the basin, wring them out, and plan to take them to the store to try again tomorrow.
Perhaps, it she sweet–talked the salesperson and played the pity card, they might let her exchange the clothes.
Meanwhile, Natalie was at the window on the Locke residence’s second floor, avesdropping on Phoebe and Evelyn’s conversation. Her lips curved into a sly smile.
She had
the cloches in the dirty laundry basket when Phoebe went to the Bathroom. Knowing Evelyn’s coutine, she was aware that after washing the dishes, Evelyn would start on the family’s laundry
Initially, Natalie had no intention of engaging with Phoebe after transmigrating into the book Still, yesterday’s events made her realize that some people would strike at her even if she didn’t prove them
The incident with the thugs served as a lesson. It was obvious that Phoebe had deliberately left her alone at the alley, hoping something would happen to her. Then, she tried to turn the nables when they got home.
Natalie didn’t want to cause trouble but wasn’t a saint, either. She wouldn’t just smile and forgive if others wanted to come at her.
As for the clothes, she saw them as a way to collect a small amount of interest.
In the dry northern climate, clothes dried quickly. Laundry washed in the morning would be dry by the afternoon, around 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Under the bright sun, a large tree in the yard provided shade over one comer
Evelyn sat down on a small stool and picked vegetables in the shade of the tree The basin at her feet was filled with the green beans she planned to cook for dinner that evening. Natalie and Phoebe were also in the yard, helping to gather the laundry that had been washed earlier.
The three of them were working in silence when someone locked in the door
Evelyn got up to answer it was Felipe Fry from the support division, delivering groceries. “Evelyn, here are the seafood allocated for Mr. Locke. They just came in from Estrait, so they’re fresh!
“If you don’t eat them tonight, you can keep them in water il comorrow, but they’ll only stay fresh for two days. If you wait too long, they won’t be good anymore.”
He handed over a net bag of clams, prawns, and crabs. The prawns were still wiggling, and the crabs clawed energetically, indicating that they were indeed fresh
Evelyn accepted the bug smiling as she nodded at him. “Great! I find a basin to keep them in immediately. Thank you for making the trip, Felipal
Felipe shyly waved her hand “Alright, I’m off now.”
