Chapter 34
Natalie had come from a middle–class family,
family, with her parents as executives in a company. She had never worried about food or clothing.
During college, she had taken advantage of the rise of short videos, casually filming her daily life and posting a few selfies, which brought in quite a bit of traffic. Brands sought her out for endorsements, and it was no problem for her to earn several thousand dollars a month.
Her parents, tired of the corporate rat race after years of navigating office politics, didn’t want her to follow the same path after graduation.
They considered the short video industry unstable, so they hoped she would secure a comfortable position within the organization, providing a stable foundation for her life. As for her salary, they believed their accumulated wealth was enough for her to live comfortably for the rest of her days.
Unfortunately, before graduating, she found herself transported to the 1970s,
Shaking off her thoughts, Natalie followed Sophie up to the second floor. Jasper and Zachary trailed behind them, keeping about three feet’s distance. The second floor was dedicated to clothing.
Once they arrived, Sophie immediately fell into shopping mode. She picked out clothes without trying them on, wrapping them up with barely a blink.
tover ten minutes since entering, she had already bought three pieces of clothing and two skirts.
In just
The salesperson, rarely encountering someone so generous, couldn’t help but ask, “Miss, which organization are you from? Why are you buying so many clothes?
She was curious about what Sophie did for a living to have so much money.
Sophie seemed to understand the subtext and proudly raised her chin, her pride nearly overflowing from her expression. “I’m a military doctor.”
The salesperson nodded in understanding. No wonder she was spending money without hesitation. No organization offered better compensation than the military.
Being at a military hospital meant her family background was likely impressive. With an envious tone, the salesperson remarked, “You must be a cadre’s daughter, right?
Sophie casually confirmed, “Yes, my parents work at the military district. My dad is a chief of staff, and my mom is in the Art Corps.”
The salesperson’s attitude shifted from envy to admiration as she was impressed by Sophie’s background.
She then noticed Natalie standing nearby, who was even more stunning. Since she entered empty–handed, the salesperson picked up a red dress to recommend to her.
“Miss, this red dress is a new arrival. I heard that a celebrity from Astros wears it. With your fair skin and beauty, you would look amazing in it. Would you like to try it on?
Natalie glanced at the dress. It indeed had a stylish design reminiscent of Astros, with an off–the–shoulder style, a flowy skirt, and a wide belt at the waist. If she styled her hair in soft waves, she would be right at the forefront of 1970s fashion.
However, while the dress was beautiful, it cost at least 30 dollars, and her total cash didn’t even come close to that. She s saying, “No, thank you.”
smiled and shook her head,
The salesperson wasn’t pushy and was about to hang the dress back up when Sophie noticed Jasper was also looking at it. She quickly exclaimed, “I’ll try
it on!”
The salesperson’s eyes lit up as she immediately handed the dress to Sophie.
Sophie had not tried on any other clothing but found this dress‘ design unique, especially since Jasper seemed to be paying particular attention to it. She wanted to try it on so he could see how beautiful she looked, so she headed to the fitting room with the dress,
While she was in the fitting room, Natalie wandered around to other clothing sections. After a quick look, she was about to head back when she turned around and found Jasper following her.
“Mr. Locke.” She nodded at him when their eyes met.
He asked, “Don’t you like shopping?”
Since they arrived, he hadn’t seen her stop at any clothing section. It seemed like she was genuinely just browsing. Didn’t women love to shop? Celeste would often go out shopping with friends whenever she had the chance, too.
