Chapter 57
“Insane! Absolutely insane!” Yvette thought. She looked at Phoebe as if she were out of her mind, giving no indication of whether she forgave her or not.
Since Yvette didn’t respond, Phoebe stubbornly stood her ground, refusing to treat her burn. Celeste was anxious. She called for Juliet, and together they dragged Phoebe to the bathroom.
The remaining people on the couch wore a mix of expressions.
James‘ eyes were widened. He was too shocked to say anything, thinking even a novel couldn’t capture this level of drama.
Evelyn was trembling in silence, secretly thankful she had never crossed paths with Phoebe. Phoebe was absolutely unhinged!
“Wait, this cup isn’t even that hot,” Natalie muttered, squatting down to tidy the mess. She picked up the enamel mug that had held the tea, placing it back on the coffee table with a puzzled frown.
Yvette reached over, grabbed the cup, and felt its surface. Sure enough, it was barely warm, around 140 degrees Fahrenheit at most, nowhere near the scalding heat of that chicken noodle soup earlier.
A cold smirk crept across Yvette’s face.
“What an actress,” she thought.
“Mrs. Locke, Mom! Phoebe was faking it. That tea wasn’t even hot. Don’t let her fool you!”
The more Yvette thought about it, the angrier she got. She shot up from the couch and stormed toward the bathroom, shouting as she went.
She was used to getting her way. Unless an elder was present, she would never hold back around her
peers.
Soon, the sound of Yvette’s outraged and dramatic accusations echoed from the bathroom.
Natalie quietly settled back on the sofa, already imagining Phoebe’s face. It must be a mix of humiliation.
They were truly good friends, well aware of each other’s antics. Watching this drama unfold was quite satisfying.
In the original storyline, Yvette had once visited the Lockes as a guest. The original subject’s flashy personality had rubbed her the wrong way, so Yvette and Phoebe had teamed up to pull a prank on her.
They had tainted the original subject’s meal with spoiled food, while everyone else’s was perfectly fine. She ended up vomiting at the table in utter humiliation, earning scorn from the others.
To add insult to injury, Yvette pretended to be helpful by offering the original subject mushroom soup, only to pretend to slip and scalded her with the
soup.

Fortunately, Celeste was a doctor. The Lockes had burn medication on hand, preventing permanent scarring. But once Yvette discovered the original subject’s crush on Jasper, she didn’t let up in tormenting her.
Last night, knowing Yvette was coming, Natalie had prepared well.
After all, a leopard didn’t change its spots. Natalie wasn’t naive enough to believe that Yvette or Phoebe would suddenly turn over a new leaf. Instead of sitting back, she had decided to take the initiative to strike first.
However, this time, the matter of Yvette’s burn was swept under the rug. Celeste apologized to Juliet profusely. Respecting the Lockes, Juliet could only let it slide.
Once Juliet and Yvette left, Phoebe again staged her act in front of Celeste just like the last time when Natalie had gone missing. She cried, knelt, and pleaded for forgiveness.
There wasn’t much Celeste could do but comfort her, saying she knew it wasn’t intentional, and that Phoebe shouldn’t take it to heart.
