Chapter 31–A Past Unknown
Emelia’s POV

I observed the man before me who claimed to be one of Victor’s old friends. His was imperable and he wrote a confident, bright smile.
It made me wonder why I hadn’t heard of him before
“So, to what pleasure does Victor owe you a visit?” I asked
He
“Oh, the pleasure’s all mine, actually! You see, I’m here for brasiness appointment. Beganced around my

I stood up and shook my head. “I’m sorry you’re having to see my office like this. I’m doing a bit of pancration and reorganizing. You know how that can be sometimes.”
Simon chuckled. “Of course! The process just ends up making an even bigger mess then you bad incender
“Exactly!” I smiled. “Come, I can take you to Victor’s office I do have to warm you however, be may not be back for quite some time. He had to take an injured colleague to the hospital.”
Simon’s eyebrows shot up. “Oh? Is that so? He’s changed quite a lot, I see
“What do you mean?”
“Oh, it’s just that’s a very considerate thing for him to do! Definitely not the same guy I remember
I raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Honestly, his reactionsurprised me. Was Victor not always and and considerate before?
His loving actions towards me during our marriage–and even the caring ones exhibited with Lily–made the think he was a saint.
If anything, it made me want to know more.
I took a deep breath once we reached Victor’s office. Seeing its meticulously clean state made me grateful. It gave me a chance to clear my head from the day’s earlier events
It also gave me an opportunity to think about what more I could learn about Victor through Simon’s eyes.
Suddenly, however, Simon leaned in close to me, as a playful grin came across his lips. “Behind every powerful man is an even greater woman, you know. Can I assume that you may be the backbone of Victor’s
My back stiffened at his close proximity and innuendo of his words. “W–what do your mean by that
Simon patted my back and chuckled. “Please don’t take me too seriously–I’m somewhat of a jokester. I simply meant that you must be his secretary? I know a lot of powerful men come to rely on their secretaries because of all the information they hold and impeccable organizational skills.”
Rosalie had stepped out to take a phone call, and while I should’ve just told Simon the truth, I decided to play along. It had suddenly occurred to me that I knew next to nothing about Victor’s social circle.
He’d never once mentioned any friend from his past. If anything, I hardly knew about any friends be currently It’s not like he went out to socialize or drink after work
But I never wanted to pry about his social life, because I wanted him to respect his own privacy and space.
However, after everything that had been happening for the past few weeks, I was starting to realize I truly didn

know my husband at all..
So, I took this opportunity to learn more about him. Even though I would’ve preferred it came from him instead….
“Oh, I see what you mean now.” I smiled. “Well, I can say it’s been a privilege to have served Mr. Russo as his secretary for so long. We keep each other in check.”
“As all good friends should do! Speaking of which, this colleague of yours must really be important for Victor to have taken an extra liking to. Do you know who he took to the hospital by chance?”
“Yes, her name is Lily. She’s the company’s newest supervisor.”
“Lily? As in Lily Marino?” Simon asked with wide eyes. “They’ve reunited?”
1 kept my expression neutral, even though his familiarity with Lily and Victor piqued my curiosity
How did he know them?
And what did h
mean by reunited?
I couldn’t lie that the implications of his words made my chest ache. However, I wore an easy smile and pressed
the conversation on.
“Oh, yes. They’ve been rather inseparable as of late. Mr. Russo has been very attentive to Miss Lily, which surprised many of us here. How do you know them?”
“We all went to the same high school together!” Simon said with a hint of pride. “If anything, they were the talk of the entire school. It would’ve been a social crime to not know who they were.”
Then he looked around the office, even though the door was closed and it was only us two.
“Oh, which reminds me,” Simon lowered his voice to whisper. “I heard Victor got married recently. Surely he made Lily his wife, right?”
“What would make you say that?”
Simon smiled. “Oh, they’ve always been such a sweet couple. Like soulmates, almost.”
“Now that you mention it… I can see it. They are indeed very loving towards one another.” I forced a polite smile to mask my discomfort. The dull ache in my chest started to grow, but I had to endure the pain
I needed to know more.
“Since you seem to know so much about Lily and Victor, I’d love to hear more about their past. I’m a sucker for romantic stories.” I had to try hard not to throw up. “Would you be so kind as to share your favorite memories?”
