Chapter 17
“That would be all for today. Now, go and rest. We’ll resume tomorrow”
Collective “awws‘ and grunts echoed around the crowd of teenagers after Lauren’s dismissal. Their training was usually just three or four times a werk, but after merging forces with the Black Ridges Pack, the training programs have been exhausted to an entire week, except for a day of rest
Lauren couldn’t really blame her students. She, too, could feel how she was getting tired from the past week’s activity. But as one of the pack’s trainor, she had to do her part. No exemptions
“Do we really have to do all of these? Aren’t we just letting the other pack turn us into their soldiers?” One student suddenly asked, obviously annoyed at how tired she had gotten over the past week.
Lauren looked at her students as they all watched her, waiting for a response with red faces. given them a strenuous activity, pairing the group into twas so they could have a real fight.

It was the first time she did it in this group. Tuolly, Lauren rescat activity for a much later time. And for much older trainees, the one who already had their wolves. But new rules were given to prioritize teaching everyone how to fight this way.
The earlier they teach them this, the better–according to Declan.
Which Lauren could honestly understand. Her skills and knowledge with it made her survive being in a werewolf community without having a werewolf.
“Alpha jasper would not allow any pack to override our own terms. He just agreed for these trainings because we have to be able to defend ourselves from those Vampires” Lauren answered, but it didn’t seem to be enough for her murmuring students.
“Vampires? We haven’t even seen one in years. Who are they kidding? I bet that Alpha is just trying to turn us into one of them. And eventually, he will also conquer our lands to expand his pack” Another student scoffed. His classmates immediately joined in and a discussion quickly started among them, veiring out their opinions of Declan and the Black Ridges Pack being here.
Lauren sighed. “Guys, please settle down.”
Thankfully, her teenage students listened to her as all their voices faded and they all fell silent, looking at her.
“I understand your frustration, but this is not just Alpha Declan’s decision. Our Alpha, Jasper, also agreed to this. So this is a command we all must leed to. He is just concerned for our safely, and there is nothing wrong with trying to be careful. There is definitely truth with the quote “prevention is better than cure, and we all must acknowledge that. Do you agree?”
The group slowly nodded their heads, seeing the logic of it. But Lauren really couldn’t blame them for thinking that way.
None of the people in the Rocky Mountains have ever encountered a Vampire before. They might have heard about the creatures, but none of then have really seen one. Therefore, they didn’t feel the need to do all of these heavy training and preparations.
For people like them who had no idea the intensity of those creatures, they could easily underestimate them and see all of what Declan was trying to da unnecessary.
But someone like Lauren couldn’t. She would never forget about the night she encountered them. The night the Vampires took everything from
Goosebumps rose on her skin at the mere thought of them.
“Take the rest of the day to relax and have fun. I’ll see you all tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Miss Willums” Slr just smiled at her students as they all walked away, Lauren sat on the grass and gulped down a bottle of water.
She looked up at the sky and savored the fresh air and bright sun. She was under the shade of a large tree, allowing her to relax for a bit before the continued on with her day.
“Kough morning!

Alpha walked towards her and immediately took a seat on the grass beside her.

“Thanks for letting them understand” Lauren looked at Jasper. Their eyes immediately met, making her realize he had been staring at her.
She shook her head. “Someone had to. They have been cranky since last werk when we started this new schedule.”
He sighed and looked at the sky she had been staring at The chouch were scarce, but the present ones looked huge and soft.

“Everyone has been. No one is just brave enough to say their reasons, unlike those students you have” Jasper chuckled, making her also smile. It’s been a while since they talked casually like this
For the past days. Lauren only saw Jasper during training and meetings. He’s become very busy. And he was always with Declin, as if he had become his other Be
“You know how teenagers are. Both her and Jasper just chuckled at her response
A peaceful feeling settled between the two of them as they both just fell silent. Lauren has always had this comfortable feeling around Jasper. Her disastrous life found tranquility when she found Rocky Mountains Park and him. She knew right there and then she would have a fresh start.
“How are you! It’s been a busy week.” Lauren asked, trying to catch
The Alpha glanced at her briefly before those brown eyes nirmed to the sky once again.
re despite h his rather light tone
“I was reminded 1 was an Alpha and real problems exist” Lauren looked at him, hearing how serious his words were
He met her eyes and when he saw the slight worry in Lauren’s orbs, he quickly smiled, the charming one that showed both of his dimples.
Lauren couldn’t understand why he never got himself a girlfriend. The guy was charming, smart, an Alpha, and just generally a sweet and good
man
But maybe that was it. He was a good man. He wouldn’t want to not wait for his mate. He wanted to be the best for her.
“My father had such a great rule he made sure I didn’t inherit the problems with the Alpha title with it. Rocky Mountains have always just been peaceful. We’ve had threats, but not to this level. He glanced at Lauren.
“It made me realize how easy I had it as an Alpha, and how much more I had to learn. But I also realized I still had so much to give, skills I never knew I had, and strength and courage that I didn’t know I could still extend. I know with enough time, I will be capable.”
“You arr
are capable” Lauren stated, letting him know how good he already was.
It is true that the Rocky Mountains had so far been peaceful–which is certainly a good thing, but that didn’t mean he was weak. It just showed how well he was at handling problems that none of them escalated
Jasper smiled at her, his perfect teeth showing and his eyes sparkling.
“Thank you for your confidence in me. But I know I still have to learn a lot
Lauren watched Jasper as he extended his long legs on the ground, his hands leaning on his back as he posed a more relaxed position. Lauren just hugged her knees, feeling the breeze of the air around themi
“There was certainly truth in all the rumors about how intelligent and powerful Alpha Declan was. We’re about the same age, and he’s tackled most of the furdest problems an Alpha could encounter. As much as I didn’t want to admit to it, he is truly one I could learn from A leader I want to
Jasper laughed at himself, which made Lauren appreciate him.
It just showed how matured and secure he was of himself. And she liked that for a leader.
“But you’ll definitely get there in no time. You have the makings of it” Lauren felt Jasper’s eyes on her. She’just continued looking ahead, enjoying Bir great view of the rocky mountains ahead of them
“With enough time and experience, I don’t doubt you’ll get to such great heights.”
“You believe in me i
in me that much?” Lauren met Jasper’s laservant eyes. She nodded at him.
“I du. Because you’re not just a strong and powerful Alpha. More than anything, you have a good heart. You are a great man, Jasper. Great men like you will get what greatness you deserve. And I couldn’t wait to see it. I’ll be watching you when you become what you ought to be.”
Jasper stared at Lauren’s face. She just smiled at the man she considered her best friend, Jasper was her savior. The person who gave her another chance at lite. She owed him a lot.
“You tube for want to train harder”
Lauren laughed at tum Jasper followed through.
“I feel like I wouldn’t be needing my rest for the work. Maybe I can even double my hours of training and just let Frest do all the paperwork.” Lauren’s laugh continued. “Yeah, and you’ll have ander session once Fred decides he’d beat you up for leaving him like that.”
Jasper and her just laughed, enjoying the company of each like they usually y dial. She always felt sendes and at peace with moments like these with

“Alpha Jasper,”
Lauren and Jasper still had huge smiles on their faces when they turned to their backs at that call.
But Lauren sat frozen when she suddenly met those cold, blue eyes, piercing at her sitting form.
“It’s time for the Council’s training session.” Fred continued, as he stood beside Declan who continued glaring

“Lauren. I see you’re very close with Alpha Jasper.” Vivienne said with a curious smile on her face. But Lauren could see through her. The woman had been present in their pack for as long as Declan was.
“Are you a couple!”
le!” Vivienne asked, sounding as if she was genuinely curious.
la Fred immediately shook his head, as Jasper also slowly did, conscious over the fact that Lauren’s ex–husband who was claiming her back was
beside them.
But a smile remained on Jasper’s face.
“Lauren is a good friend. She helped me make this pack become the best in the South” He turned to her. Lauren forced back out a smile, but her mood had entirely shifted. Declan was still glaring at them.
“You’d need to train thrice harder if you want to become the great man
man you o
ought to become.
All their eyes went to Declan when he spoke icily. Lauren’s eyes widened a bit, realizing he had heard what she said and how angry he sounded.
