Chapter 54
Lauren sat
sat up from her bed and looked out the window. Her head was beating so loudly on her chest. She thought it was already morning, but the dark lights outside told her the sun had not shown itself for the beginning of the day.
“This needs to stop, she thought to herself as she tried getting a hold of her own mind.

The only good thing that happened was she didn’t wake up crying this time. And she didn’t feel so absorbed into it. lurker. As if she was looking at them from a different side of the house where she could see and hear everything.
But there was nothing physically different. Just this voice that has been telling her things she couldn’t decipher.
Im going crazy, Lauren gripped her hair and inhaled sharply before she looked out of the window again. From how the sky was slowly turning/ light blue, she knew the sun was going up anytime.
Lauren decided to stay up and look out the window. She did her best to focus on the distant trees and how the stars were still visible in the sky with the crescent moon. They all looked like they were fading, but it was a sign of a new day. And she knew those stars and moon will always be just there watching them.
Lauren inhaled deeply, feeling something in her gut. Something was bothering her, but for some reason, it wasn’t due to her nightmares.
It just felt different. As if there was something big that was going to happen.
From a
far distance, Lauren suddenly caught something moving. She barely caught the movement, but with her eyes that was beginning to appear clearer as the days went by, she caught that very subtle movement.
She focused her eyes there and saw it again. Lauren instinctively took a step back, realizing that there truly was someone else nearby–not nearby. It was inside the small fence behind the packhouse.
It had gotten inside the packhouse’s vicinity.

Lauren took a step back at the foot of her bed before she decided to get down and report this to anyone e who was still aw

She immediately thought of Declan, but as she took a step out of her room–across the room that was the room they shared before, where he also chose to stay, Lauren decided against it.
She wasn’t even sure if he was there. Since they transferred in the packhouse the other day, she’s never seen Declan come home, except for that one night. And from the way she couldn’t sense him, she just knew Declan wasn’t there. At home with the twins.
Lauren quickly turned away as unwelcome but familiar emotions came rushing through her chest. The pain of rejection came back to her, but she pushed it away and thought of the possible intruder inside their pack
“I’m going to call Yuan.” Deciding with that, she rushed out of the packhouse. Upon feeling a very distant but familiar presence from another werewolf, she immediately felt at ease. She knew it was one of the guards roving around the pack

Lauren quickly made her way towards their backyard. Making sure to suppress her werewolf presence and move quietly, she basically tiptoed her way towards the corner of the huge packhouse to take a look at the backyard.
She looked to her left and right, but she couldn’t see anyone. She also couldn’t feel anyone’s presence, so Lauren continued, until she found herself nearing the thick woods where she had seen the movement.
Her brows cre
creased and the tension she hadn’t realize riding on her shoulder since she looked out the window was suddenly gone.
“What – I’m sure
Lauren flinched and gasped in shock at the sudden deep voice that rang from the woods
To her left, was a guard who looked at her with confusion.
“What are you doing here in this hour?”
“The suspicion that was on the guard’s voice made her quickly shake her head. She understood that everyone in the Black Ridges Pack was on edge 1/3

I’m sorry, I just came here to confirm what I just saw from the window.”
“Which window?” He asked with a raised brow. Lauren hesitated and bit her lip. The only window that could possibly look out this way was from the packhouse.
“From the packhouse,” she just said.
The guard’s eyes immediately turned wide. And as if putting up the puzzle pieces together, he stared at Lauren with awe before he bowed slightly
“I’m so sorry, Luna. I didn’t realize it was you.”
“No, no. Please 1-1 just want to check the movement I saw inside the woods. It was nearing the packhouse and was worried it was an invader. It was able to penetrate the vicinity of the packhouse” Lauren nervously reported. After that conversation with Declan, she didn’t know whether she’d want to hear about everyone knowing who she was. –
It was like claiming by herself that she was Luna. It would be ridiculous after what Declan told her.
“Oh, I actually felt that too, that’s why I came over here”
“You did?” Lauren reiterated, relieved that the topic had been diverted and that she wasn’t just being paranoid earlier.
“May I ask where you specifically saw it, Luna?” The guard asked. Lauren shook her head.
“Please, call me Lauren.” The guard looked at her with a bit of confusion. But she continued. “I saw it just behind that tree earlier. It was so quick. I barely saw it. But I knew there was someone. Just from the window’s distance and the trees blocking my vision, I couldn’t tell if it was a wolf or a vampire.”
“I see. That’s amazing that you saw that all throughout the packhouse’s second floor. That’s quite far.” He sounded amazed. Lauren just nodded.
“Let’s see if there was really someone. I actually didn’t see anything. But I just felt a very subtle change in the air. So I quickly looked around.”
Lauren once again just nodded as he started walking towards the tree she pointed at earlier. She followed him and they were approaching a very thick tree. It would take two people to extend their arms to hug it.
“Hmm, there’s sull no one.
“I was sure I saw the movement stop here.” Lauren pointed at the huge plant as she looked around. But the same as the guard, she couldn’t see anyone or anything that could have made that subtle movement.
“Are you sure, Luna?” Shrugging away the title, Lauren nodded.
“You might as well mindlink the Alpha and the Beta to report this.” The guard quickly nodded.
But before he could even blink, Lauren felt a cold whiff of air pass by her and a force that momentarily pushed her back.
She registered that someone had shoved her as she saw the horror in the eyes of the guard who stood frozen as a tall vampire man put his head beside his head.
Before Lauren could process everything, the shrilling sound of the guard’s cry resonated around the quiet pack, waking up the birds that slept on the trees and possibly their packmates.
Lauren watched in horror as the guard fell down beside her on the ground, and the tall vampire that bit him stood in front of her.
“It’s so nice to see you clearly and in person? Lauren shivered at the deep, otherworldly tone of the man’s voice as he stared at her with those blood red eyes. There was not a single emotion on his face. He remained stoic despite the blood on his chin.

What unnerved Lauren the most was how he stared at her face. As if he was taking in everything while he stood closely

But with his state and how unnaturally (even for vampires) quick he was, the vampire was able to evade his attack.
“How annoying. You don’t get killed easily is tone was so monotone that is brought shivers down Lauren’s
She was still frozen in place. Something in her mind was ticking as she continued looking at the vampire.
“Hut your bravery is for nothing, dog,” It was then that Lauren found her strength.
“No!” she lunged herself towards the staggering guard and pushed him back to the ground.
She closed her eyes and expected a bite, but she suddenly heard and felt a rumbling on the ground.
