Chapter 71
The ashes gave me an idea. Perhaps I could use my power to find my dead body and, ultimately, my killer..
Eyes shut tightly, I tried my best to search for my remaining body parts. When my eyes flickered open again, I realized I had succeeded. The scene before me had changed. It was a familiar place that I could never forget—the Schultz residence.
Mom sat in the living room, massaging her temples. Amber approached her with a bowl of soup. “Mom, you know Grandma’s temper very well. Don’t spend time getting upset over her. It’s not worth ruining your health for.”
I recognized the bowl Mom was using–it was the same bone china bowl she had just gifted to Grandma. Gritting any teeth, I resented Amber for her cold–bloodedness.
It was one thing to hate me. Why did she drag our entire family into this drama? Why did she offer my parents the bone china bowls after all the love they showered her with?
Amber set the bowl of chicken soup on the coffee table. “Mom, I made this soup for you because your health hasn’t been great lately.”
Mom opened her eyes. “Amber, you’re the best. You’re not like your ungrateful older sister who goes missing for days without a word.”
It wasn’t until that moment I saw concern on Mom’s face.
“Mom, it’s all my fault. Ally wouldn’t have left in anger if I hadn’t called Shane. I’ll leave the country when Ally comes home, so she won’t need to stay upset at me.”
“Nonsense! You did nothing wrong by calling shane! Allison was the petty and jealous one. She’s stirring up drama and leaving home over nothing.”
The fleeting concern on Mom’s face vanished at that moment. She started comforting Amber and telling her not to feel sorry, as everything was my fault.
“But Mom, the thought of Ally being alone out there worries me. She’s a woman, after all. What if she gets into trouble? Is it really okay if we don’t look for her?”
“If she gets into trouble, she only has herself to blame for it.” Mom sounded cold. “She insisted on leaving home. You picked her up the first time she pulled it off, and that emboldened her to pull the same trick every time she was mad.
“No one has the time to search for her. She is an adult now, and she should really stop
bringing trouble to our family.”
They would shower Amber with concern and love whenever Amber was in pain or trouble. Yet, Mom regarded my disappearance for weeks as a nuisance.

I would have gone fora DNA test if I were alive. How could my own mother show me such indifference?
In the middle of their conversation, Dad and Archer arrived home, their faces flushed and eyes glazed over after having too much to drink at the social event.
“Why aren’t you in bed at this hour?” Dad took off his coat and handed it to the family maid.
“What else could it be? Mom refused to give up her stocks. She insisted on leaving everything
for Allison.”
Archer settled on the couch and accepted the cup of tea offered by the maid. He drank half of it before saying, “Grandma has always taken a liking to Allison, so I totally understand her
response.
“How about this? The company has been doing well lately. I talked to Dad about the stocks, and we’ll transfer part of our stocks–mine, Ashton’s, and Dad’s–to Abbie.”
